About the Role

The Generalist Solution Architect designs end-to-end, integrated technology solutions for complex business problems across the Group. This technology-agnostic role works across multiple domains, platforms, and programs, translating business requirements into secure, scalable, and supportable designs aligned with enterprise architecture principles. The role is mobile, supporting change across a broad portfolio and operating within the OpCo architecture function to shape local solutions while aligning with Group strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Design end-to-end solutions spanning applications, integrations, data, infrastructure, cloud, security, and operational considerations.
  • Structure complex business problems into clear solution options, making functional and non-functional requirements explicit and traceable.
  • Produce solution designs that are fit for purpose, proportionate, and aligned to enterprise standards without unnecessary complexity.
  • Operate across multiple business domains and technology areas, applying solution architecture skills rather than domain specialism.
  • Move flexibly between initiatives, supporting a portfolio of projects and programmes at different stages of delivery.
  • Integrate solutions across new and existing platforms, avoiding siloed or point-solution thinking.
  • Work with business and delivery teams to ensure requirements are complete, consistent, and technically viable.
  • Ensure solution designs meet agreed functional, non-functional, security, resilience, and operability requirements.
  • Actively manage and govern design deviations during delivery, balancing architectural integrity with practical delivery constraints.
  • Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture principles, standards, and roadmaps, escalating or resolving non-compliance where required.
  • Collaborate with enterprise and domain architects to ensure local designs contribute positively to the wider technology landscape.
  • Build appropriate quality and assurance checkpoints into projects to ensure alignment is maintained through implementation.
  • Work closely with delivery teams to support build, test, and implementation activities from an architectural perspective.
  • Contribute to testing and solution validation, ensuring intended benefits and outcomes are realised.
  • Engage with suppliers and partners where solutions involve third-party products or services, evaluating and assuring their designs and deliverables.
  • Engage confidently with business, technology, and delivery stakeholders at all levels.
  • Communicate solution designs clearly, adapting detail and language to suit different audiences.
  • Operate as a trusted partner, balancing user needs, technical integrity, risk, and cost.

Requirements

  • Degree level education or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong solution architecture capability across multiple technology domains.
  • Ability to structure ambiguity into clear, deliverable solution designs.
  • Proven stakeholder engagement and influencing skills in complex organisations.
  • Clear communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong judgement, balancing architectural quality with delivery pragmatism.
  • Proven experience operating as a Solution Architect across diverse initiatives.
  • Experience designing solutions that span applications, integration, data, and infrastructure.
  • Experience working across multiple projects and programmes, rather than a single long-term domain.
  • Exposure to enterprise architecture standards and governance in large organisations.
  • Experience working in international or multi operating company environments (desirable).
