About the Role

The Senior Manager, Project Engineering is responsible for providing design oversight aligned with engineering standards, managing request for pricing, coordinating automation deployments, and providing execution support for projects tied to existing or expanding business implementations in the United States. This role drives the development of facility layout, storage media, and flow designs, paired with appropriate equipment supporting the Concept of Operations. The delivered detailed design must meet customer and internal organizational requirements for Safety, Quality, and Productivity. The Senior Manager, Project Engineering will oversee Industrial Engineers with the physical implementation of the design adhering to scope, timeline, and budget requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide design oversight aligned with current engineering standards.
  • Manage and coordinate request for pricing efforts.
  • Coordinate automation deployments in conjunction with the Automation director.
  • Provide execution support for projects tied to existing or expanding business implementations in the United States.
  • Drive the development of designs for overall facility layout, storage media, and flow paired with appropriate equipment supporting the Concept of Operations.
  • Oversee Industrial Engineers with the physical implementation of the design adhering to scope, timeline, and budget requirements.
  • Lead the team of Industrial Engineers in successfully qualifying new solutions and quantifying business requirements.
  • Assess existing sites, develop process design, and create efficient facility designs utilizing technology where applicable.
  • Oversee vendor selections and procurement execution, and vendor management.
  • Manage all other related implementation/upfit tasks and support decommissioning tasks of existing sites.
  • Drive engineering standards and lead the delivery of project engineering scope.
  • Guide and develop the team of Industrial Engineers.
  • Validate business requirements, develop detail process flows, and confirm the Concept of Operations with Operations and Automation & Integration teams.
  • Provide facility design oversight through driving efficient and effective layout, flow, work areas, and storage media.
  • Plan and track work content for engineers, manage project assignments, and forecast bandwidth via annual staff planning.
  • Support alignment of DSV documented warehouse standards to support new business implementations and existing business various scopes.
  • Ensure all distribution system functionality is configured to optimize performance (e.g., WMS, LMS).
  • Leverage MS Project or Smart Sheets to plan, schedule, coordinate and problem solve effectively.
  • Develop the team to provide the detailed tasks required for successful implementation to the Project Manager.
  • Identify and drive the procurement of all necessary capital expense items to support successful launch of operation.
  • Prepare Design Criteria documents.
  • Coordinate the efforts of senior and junior engineers, providing mentoring, coaching, counseling, and development.
  • Maintain CAD version control and current scope specifics throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Engage appropriate vendors to assess design elements, including consultants.
  • Lead all RFQs – Rack, Furniture, Technology, Signage, etc.
  • Create budgetary considerations with director and project manager.
  • Develop continuous improvement processes and culture to advance the overall standard and program.
  • Act as the company representative with vendors and suppliers during project execution.

Requirements

  • Comfortable designing & implementing/upfitting large complex distribution centers.
  • Superior communication skills, including the proven ability to effectively manage a team, influence and negotiate with external/internal business partners.
  • Experience dealing with end users, vendors and clients.
  • Experience in 3PL environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.
  • Four-year degree is basic requirement (Industrial Engineering preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years Logistics/Supply Chain Industry experience.
  • 7+ years' experience in warehousing or industrial design.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, and Vizio.
  • Knowledge of WMS functionality.
  • English (reading, writing, verbal), Spanish a plus.
  • Interpersonal communication and language skills (e.g., listening to others, speaking to others, reading, writing).
  • Mature communication skills to communicate to all levels in the organization.
  • Six Sigma / Lean Certifications (Preferred).
  • E-commerce experience including starting up small to large volume warehouses (Preferred).
  • Experience in warehouse automation applications (Pick to Light, Automated Sortation, Voice Pick, conveyor design, etc.) (Preferred).
  • Good mathematical skills.
  • Ability to Lift/Carry and Push/Pull 21-50 pounds.
  • Ability to Reach above shoulder, reach outward, squat, or kneel.
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk or hear.
  • Ability to use computer and telephone equipment.
  • Specific vision requirements include close vision and distance vision.
  • Must be able to travel by plane and automobile.
