About the Role

Block by Block California employs Ambassadors to make public spaces friendlier, safer, and cleaner. This role offers visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in an assigned zone, requiring a positive and professional demeanor.

Responsibilities

• Acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile to provide directions and city information.
• Remove litter, including fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts, and other debris from streets, sidewalks, and alleys.
• Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, and news boxes.
• Pull weeds from tree wells, sidewalk cracks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces such as trash can lids and news boxes.
• Identify and report unwanted behaviors or criminal activity to Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios.
• Complete basic daily reports of tasks completed.

Requirements

• One year of cleaning experience preferred; training is provided.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.
• Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions.
• Must be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
• CA Driver's License required for Pressure Washers.
• CA Driver's License with a clean driving record is a plus.
