About the Role
Overwatch is seeking a Senior Account Manager, Accounting to join our growing finance organization. This is a hands-on, generalist role suited to a builder who thrives in a small, fast-moving team, owning core accounting operations and helping design processes, controls, and systems as Overwatch scales. We are looking for candidates with public accounting experience who bring technical rigor, audit-readiness, and a strong controls mindset.
Responsibilities
- Own the monthly and annual close process, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and consolidated financial statements across multiple entities and business units.
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable operations, including vendor payments, customer invoicing and collections, and cash application, ensuring accuracy and timeliness across entities.
- Manage and mentor a team of staff accountants, reviewing their work and developing their technical skills.
- Partner with the VP of Accounting on technical accounting matters, including revenue recognition construction, staffing, and services contracts.
- Coordinate with outside tax preparers and advisors on income tax, sales/use tax, and multi-state filings; ensure timely, accurate compliance across entities.
- Lead intercompany accounting and eliminations across Overwatch's business units (including international), ensuring clean, accurate consolidations.
- Serve as a key point of contact for the annual financial statement audit and any lender or bank-required reporting; prepare audit schedules and support requests.
- Design, document, and strengthen internal controls and accounting policies as Overwatch scales, identifying gaps and driving process improvement.
- Own or support accounting system administration and process automation (ERP, close checklists, reporting tools), improving efficiency as transaction volume grows.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc financial analysis for leadership as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA license (active or eligible) required.
- 6–8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong technical GAAP knowledge and demonstrated experience managing a full-cycle monthly close.
- Experience managing or mentoring staff.
- Comfortable operating in a lean, fast-paced environment and building process rather than just following it.
- Public accounting experience at a Big 4, national, or regional firm (audit or assurance background strongly preferred).
- Experience with multi-entity consolidations and intercompany accounting.
- Experience with construction, staffing/PEO, or professional services accounting (percentage-of-completion, job costing, or contract revenue recognition).
