About the Role

This role is responsible for the profitable growth and strategic development of the Programs portfolio, focusing on designing, scaling, and optimizing property-driven programs across niche and emerging industries. The candidate will blend technical property underwriting expertise with program leadership experience to build, evaluate, and evolve programs, influence underwriting strategy, and partner with MGAs and brokers for sustainable growth.

Responsibilities

  • Lead underwriting oversight of a portfolio of delegated and non-delegated authority programs, with a strong emphasis on property and property-led programs.
  • Conduct holistic program reviews, including profitability, rate adequacy, CAT exposure, and long-term sustainability.
  • Drive portfolio segmentation strategies, identifying growth opportunities within specialized property niches.
  • Contribute to the creation, launch, and scaling of new programs, including development of underwriting guidelines and product wordings.
  • Underwrite and guide complex commercial property risks, including large and non-standard exposures.
  • Apply deep understanding of property coverage, wordings, CAT modelling, and facultative reinsurance structures.
  • Support program partners in risk selection, pricing strategy, and coverage structuring.
  • Provide technical leadership on large accounts, high-value assets, and specialized property exposures.
  • Build and manage strong relationships with MGAs, brokers, and capacity partners.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, influencing underwriting practices and program strategies.
  • Collaborate on market expansion opportunities, including new distribution channels and niche sectors.
  • Ensure consistent service delivery and alignment of underwriting standards across delegated authorities.
  • Lead the review and governance of MGA and delegated underwriting authority agreements.
  • Oversee and enhance program audit protocols, including underwriting quality, claims trends, and financial performance.
  • Monitor portfolio performance using data-driven insights, actuarial inputs, and claims analysis.
  • Identify emerging trends and proactively implement corrective actions and underwriting adjustments.
  • Contribute to the national Programs strategy, with a focus on property-led growth segments.
  • Identify opportunities to expand into specialized industries.
  • Champion innovation in program design, underwriting processes, and market positioning.
  • Support development of standardized frameworks, playbooks, and scalable underwriting models.
  • Partner closely with Actuarial, Risk Services, Claims, Reinsurance, and Legal to drive profitability.
  • Translate technical insights into actionable strategies for program partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Support internal knowledge sharing and elevate technical underwriting capability across the Programs team.
  • Handle applicable experience in casualty and/or financial lines, given that property-centric programs may include some of these elements.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of commercial P&C underwriting experience, with a strong emphasis on property underwriting and programs/portfolio management.
  • Demonstrated experience in building or managing insurance programs or niche segments.
  • Demonstrated experience in underwriting complex property risks and large accounts.
  • Demonstrated experience working with MGAs and delegated authority models (a preference).
  • Strong understanding of property wordings, CAT exposures, and reinsurance structures.
  • Strong understanding of portfolio analytics, profitability metrics, and program performance tracking.
  • Proven ability to drive profitable growth within specialized segments.
  • Proven ability to balance technical underwriting discipline with commercial strategy.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders across brokers, MGAs, and internal teams.
