About the Role
The Afterschool Program Director is responsible for the overall supervision of LEAP's arts-integrated afterschool programming. This includes managing and training staff, streamlining curricula, building community partnerships, and establishing an organizational structure for the program. The role involves close collaboration with LEAP senior staff, internal departments, and school partners to align with LEAP's vision and mission.
Responsibilities
- Manage and train staff, ensuring they meet program, organizational, and regulatory objectives.
- Oversee program finances, including budget management, expense tracking, and ensuring staff work within allocated hours.
- Ensure program activities align with program goals and youth needs.
- Ensure the program meets all DOH and LEAP safety regulations and implement safety procedures.
- Build and maintain relationships with principals, parents, youth, LEAP departments, and external vendors.
- Track attendance, event participation, and survey data to support program effectiveness reports.
- Work cooperatively with school leadership and LEAP staff to assess needs, evaluate budgets, plan programming, and oversee quality delivery.
- Hire, train, and supervise part-time staff members.
- Ensure part-time Activity Specialists and Teaching Artists design, submit, and deliver engaging lesson plans.
- Oversee program finances, including managing budgets, tracking expenses, submitting receipts, and managing staff timesheets.
- Ensure the program meets all DOH and LEAP safety regulations and implement procedures to maintain a safe environment for children.
- Build and maintain relationships with principals, parents, youth, LEAP's various departments, external vendors, and various other stakeholders.
- Track attendance, event participation, surveys, and other data to support program effectiveness reports.
Requirements
- A New York State Children's Program Administrator Credential OR a School-Age Child Care Credential OR an associate's degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field.
- Minimum of two years supervisory experience required.
- Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students in a school-based or community-based setting; prior afterschool experience preferred.
- Familiarity with diverse ethnic and cultural communities.
- Sensitivity to parent concerns and child development issues.
- Enthusiasm, creativity, initiative, and the ability to adapt quickly to change.
- The proven ability to serve as a dynamic team leader.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team of staff, including recruitment, training, & performance management.
- Experience in planning, developing, and implementing educational programs that align with organizational goals and meet the needs of the program.
- Ability to address any issues that arise within the program, including student behavior, staff conflicts, or community partner concerns.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and maintain accurate records.
- Strong verbal & written communication, active listening & conflict resolution; relationship building with students, parents, staff, and community partners.
- Pre-employment screening is required, including criminal history checks.
