About the Role

Perkins is an international NGO dedicated to providing best-in-class education and support to children with disabilities, their families, and professionals. This role supports residential cottages, offering supervision, organization, and administrative coverage for students with complex disabilities and visual impairments.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to residential staff, ensuring consistent implementation of program routines and student programming.
• Assist supervisors in monitoring staff performance, documentation, and policy compliance.
• Maintain effective communication and collaborate with cottage staff, administrators, and interdisciplinary teams.
• Act as a liaison with education, health services, clinical, and educational staff.
• Provide direct supervision to Teaching Assistants and Awake Overnights.
• Provide Yearly Performance Appraisals to Teaching Assistants and Awake Overnights.
• Assist in developing, implementing, and instructing students on IEP goals, objectives, and strategies.
• Demonstrate understanding of the general curriculum and the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC).
• Engage students to support emotional, social, and behavioral learning and development.
• Promote student independence, self-confidence, and development of social, organizational, and other critical skills.
• Monitor student safety and wellbeing, responding promptly and appropriately to behavioral or medical incidents.
• Implement crisis prevention and physical intervention (SafetyCare) techniques to de-escalate situations safely.
• Ensure compliance with safe food handling and nutritional requirements.
• Assist in coordinating daily schedules, including meals, breaks, activities, transportation, and bedtime routines.
• Produce clear, well-written reports in proper formats, submit reports and IEPs on time, and oversee completion of all staff and student-related documentation.
• Document daily logs, incident reports, and behavioral data accurately and in a timely manner.
• Represent the cottage at meetings with families, school districts, and interdepartmental teams.
• Communicate timely and effectively with families, clinicians, and other stakeholders.
• Participate in staff training, supervision meetings, and professional development opportunities.
• Successfully pass and maintain Perkins Medication Administration Clearance.
• Provide classroom or cottage coverage, including Teacher and Related Service Provider absence coverage.
• Actively assist students in clinical, physical/recreational, and off-campus activities.
• Provide and monitor direct care (e.g., hygiene, toileting, showering, feeding, dressing, lifting/transferring) tailored to each student’s abilities.
• Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Two (2) years of experience working with children with disabilities.
• At least one year of supervisory experience preferred.
• Ability to complete and maintain First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and Crisis Prevention and Physical Intervention (SafetyCare) certifications.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to drive school vehicles including chair cars.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold student and staff rights.
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
• Possess good judgment and are an effective problem solver in the management of the residence.
• Dependable, conscientious and punctual.
• Maintains an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor.
• Respects the confidentiality and human rights of the students and staff.
• Makes effective use of time, completes work on schedule, and meets deadlines.
• Produces clear, well-written reports in proper formats and submits reports/IEP on time.
• Demonstrates flexibility adjusting to changes in daily routines, students’ needs, and administrative directives, policies and procedures.
• Ability to step into a leadership role.
• Displays enthusiasm for job duties, assignments, and the school.
• Must occasionally be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
