About the Role

We are looking for a Mechanic to join our team at the Repair Shop.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and replace engine components, transmissions, powertrains, differentials, and exhaust systems across a variety of equipment.
  • Use computerized diagnostic tools to analyze and troubleshoot engine control modules (ECMs), emissions systems, and electronic fault codes.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance, including fluid changes, tire rotations, brake servicing, and suspension checks.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and conduct vehicle annual safety inspections and certifications.
  • Fabricate, rebuild and modify parts using welding techniques, including oxyacetylene, and arc welding.
  • Ensure repairs and servicing of equipment are performed promptly, minimizing downtime.
  • Diagnose and repair complex electrical systems, including wiring issues, alternators, battery systems, and computerized control modules.
  • Perform pressure testing, troubleshoot hydraulic failures, and repair cylinders, pumps, and hoses.
  • Service gasoline and diesel engines, automatic and manual transmissions, differentials, and axle components.
  • Repair and replace shock absorbers, springs, steering components, and brake systems.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Assist with ordering replacement parts and managing inventory for tools, spare components, and consumables.
  • Keep a clean, safe, and organized repair shop, ensuring tools, parts, and equipment are properly stored.
  • Travel to various sites within the GTA for field service repairs using a company-provided service vehicle.
  • Perform on-site diagnostics and emergency repairs to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Communicate effectively with site personnel regarding repair status, estimated downtime, and any required follow-ups.
  • Maintain a proactive safety culture by ensuring adherence to all workplace safety regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety checks and risk assessments for tools, equipment, and repair procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with the Funeral, Burial, and Cremation Services Act (FBCSA), and Cemetery By-laws.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Manager, Fleet and Equipment Services.

Requirements

  • Valid Ontario Mechanic’s Licence (310S or 310T Certification).
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in the automotive or equipment repair industry.
  • At least three (3) years of leadership or supervisory experience in a repair shop environment, preferably within a unionized setting.
  • Experience in welding and fabrication, including proficiency in MIG, TIG, oxyacetylene, and arc welding.
  • Expertise in hydraulic systems, including diagnostics, repairs, and pressure testing.
  • Valid Ontario “G” driver’s licence with a clean driving record.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Highway Traffic Act, and environmental regulations.
  • Proficiency in using automotive diagnostic tools and instruments.
  • Knowledge of welding and fabrication using oxyacetylene, and arc welding.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to train apprentices and work collaboratively.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and lift heavy objects as required.
  • Basic proficiency of Windows and MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, with the ability to work sensitively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
