About the Role
This pilot program offers Functional Family Therapy (FFT) virtually to a maximum of 10 voluntarily participating families in NYC. The program targets young adults (16-25 years old) referred after an arrest, providing an alternative to incarceration. FFT is an intensive, home-based, evidence-based family therapy model. The role involves training, consultation, program reviews, collaboration with agencies like MOCJ and CJA, and comprehensive documentation.
Responsibilities
- Provide virtual and/or home-based clinical treatment adhering to the Functional Family Therapy (FFT) model.
- Participate in engagement efforts for referred families.
- Conduct assessments including reviewing referral information, identifying and engaging key participants, assessing systemic strengths and weaknesses, and analyzing problem behaviors within their ecological context.
- Engage youth, primary caregivers, and other key participants in active, change-oriented treatment by identifying and overcoming engagement barriers.
- Implement problem conceptualization, treatment planning, intervention implementation, outcome review, and strategy revision using the FFT model's Analytic Process.
- Maintain clear and concise documentation of treatment efforts for review and feedback, demonstrating compliance with the FFT model Analytic Process.
- Complete progress notes, case openings/closings, and other reporting/case management requirements accurately and in a timely manner.
- Submit progress reports to the court or other stakeholders when required.
- Collaborate with all relevant systems and key participants to ensure buy-in and cooperation throughout treatment, including regular meetings and reports.
- Participate in all agency and FFT model program training, individual supervision, and group consultation activities.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree from an accredited university in a field with professional licensure (Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, or related).
- Experience with evidence-based prevention.
- Experience working with adolescents.
- Knowledge of the juvenile justice and criminal justice systems.
- Ability to set appropriate boundaries and limits for best practice.
Skills
- Competency in serving LGBTQIA+ identities is strongly preferred.
- Preferred experience and skills with family therapy concepts and practices.
- Preferred experience and skills with behavior management techniques.
- Preferred experience and skills with mental health treatment.
- Knowledge of and experience providing treatment for domestic violence issues.
- Knowledge of and experience providing treatment for substance abuse issues.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish.

About the Company
- The FFT Therapist provides FFT (Functional Family Therapy) virtually, to a maximum of 10 voluntarily participating families at a time who reside in NYC. The target population of young adults (16-25 years old), who are referred to us after an arrest. This is a pilot program to offer FFT to families and young people who might otherwise find themselves incarcerated without this alternative. FFT is an evidence-based model which is home-based, intensive, family therapy. The FFT Therapist participates in all FFT training and consultation activities, and program reviews. In addition to providing Family Therapy, the FFT Therapist will collaborate with other service providers, including but not limited to the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice (MOCJ) and New York City Criminal Justice Agency (CJA). The FFT Therapist is required to complete all FFT documentation requirements, including meeting appropriate therapeutic and engagement requirements and assessing for family safety and risk.
