About the Role

Working under the direct supervision of the Senior Practice Nurse and Senior GP, the Healthcare Assistant will assist the Practice clinical team in delivering prescribed patient care programs.

Responsibilities

• Perform new patient health checks, NHS Health checks, Diabetes foot checks, Asthma checks, CRM checks, and 1st part of SMI checks.
• Record blood pressure and conduct 24h BP monitoring.
• Perform ECG recording and Spirometry.
• Administer B12 injections and flu vaccines on a named patient basis.
• Process and manage laboratory samples.
• Sterilize, cleanse, and maintain surgical equipment.
• Manage vaccine and cold chain storage, monitoring, and recording.
• Restock and rotate surgical equipment and vaccine inventory.
• Clear and restock consulting rooms.
• Prepare and maintain environments and equipment for patient care, including assisting GPs during minor operations.
• Assist in assessing and surveilling patients' health and well-being, such as providing simple diet advice.
• Undertake specific clinical activities for named patients as delegated and taught.
• Promote health and well-being awareness.
• Assist with the collection and collation of data on health and well-being needs.
• Undertake and update infection control training periodically.
• Participate in all infection control measures following current procedures and protocols.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
• Assist in promoting and maintaining health, safety, and security in the workplace.
• Identify and manage risks associated with work activities.
• Utilize training to update knowledge and skills.

Requirements

• Must have completed a recognized Healthcare Assistant training program.
• Must have experience in phlebotomy and ECG recording.
• Must have experience in B12 injections and flu vaccine administration.
• Must have experience in processing and managing laboratory samples.
• Must have experience in sterilizing, cleansing, and maintaining surgical equipment.
• Must have experience in vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring, and recording.
• Must have experience in surgical equipment and vaccine restocking and stock rotation.
• Must have experience in clearing and restocking consulting rooms.
• Must have experience in preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during, and after patient care interventions.
• Must have experience in assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations.
• Must have experience in assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients’ health and well-being.
• Must have experience in giving simple diet advice.
• Must have experience in undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients.
• Must have experience in helping to raise awareness of health and well-being.
• Must have experience in assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being.
• Must have completed infection control training and update it periodically.
• Must adhere to all infection control measures within the practice.
