About the Role

The Sr. Industrial Engineer is responsible for designing and implementing common contract logistics processes and driving continuous performance improvement. This engineer may also provide engineering support for new and/or expanding business implementations. The Sr. Industrial Engineer will support multifaceted operations and have a detailed understanding of client needs. The Sr. Industrial Engineer may contribute to the overall facility layout and design as well as determine appropriate equipment to support the concept of operational use. The Engineer will lead & manage any necessary vendors, as they execute the physical implementation of the solution. This role is also responsible for maintaining financial and engineering metrics that will meet or exceed performance goals. The Sr. Industrial Engineer may at times provide guidance and training to interns/Co-ops.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement common contract logistics processes.
  • Drive continuous performance improvement.
  • Provide engineering support for new and/or expanding business implementations.
  • Support multifaceted operations and understand client needs.
  • Contribute to facility layout and design.
  • Determine appropriate equipment for operational use.
  • Lead and manage vendors for physical solution implementation.
  • Maintain financial and engineering metrics to meet or exceed performance goals.
  • Provide guidance and training to interns/Co-ops.
  • Keep informed of best-in-class tools and techniques for solution design.
  • Track all projects and communicate with engineering leadership.
  • Determine and enlist resources for targeted changes.
  • Analyze workflow processes (inbound, put away, replenishment, picking, packing, shipping, VAS) for accuracy and execution.
  • Ensure distribution system functionality is configured to optimize performance (WMS, LMS).
  • Perform special research or technical studies for logistic support functions.
  • Perform cost/benefit tradeoff analysis and develop ROI business cases.
  • Develop logistics engineering strategies with the engineering leadership team.
  • Participate in 'DSV Quality Planning' (DQP) sessions with new clients.
  • Support local operations with pricing analysis.
  • Document and communicate common processes for all distribution functions.
  • Review data and summarize expectations to address operational gaps.
  • Identify areas for improvement based on data analysis and observations.
  • Communicate opportunities for improvement.
  • Help determine key metrics and provide recommendations to management.
  • Assist with developing/presenting training materials for distribution processes.
  • Bring cross-functional teams together to collaborate on projects.
  • Support the labor management program, including methods, procedures, and engineered labor standards.
  • Ensure alignment among operations' policies, procedures, and improvement projects.
  • Educate team in LEAN to support a sustainable CI culture.
  • Facilitate LEAN methodology in collaboration with the global team.
  • Deploy statistical tools (Pareto Charts, Histograms, Cause & Effect Diagrams).
  • Leverage Value Stream Map or Flow Diagram to identify critical to quality points.
  • Use Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) of the process being evaluated.
  • Maintain SME in industry methods and tools (Six Sigma DMAIC, value-stream mapping, 5S).
  • Work with leadership to drive continual improvement programs, Kaizen events, and workshops.
  • Set the standard for innovation in problem solving.
  • Apply traditional concepts to material handling environments.
  • Ensure projects include a sustainability component.
  • Illustrate continual improvement successes in case studies.
  • Assist with developing and rolling out strategies and projects.
  • Determine project feasibility considering costs, space, schedule, goals, and technical factors.
  • Develop and implement project activity plans and timelines.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, facility management, and field service personnel.
  • Resolve logistics problems to meet contractual commitments.
  • Drive standard approach for US-based operations.
  • Coordinate with Canadian counterparts.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Backup Engineering Leadership on occasion.
  • Maintain fiscal responsibility towards department budget.
  • Ensure compliance with Internal Labor Regulations and Human Resources Procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with Security, Safety, and Hygiene Measures & Procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Industrial Engineering or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum 3-4 years’ experience in a supply chain (warehouse/4walls) environment.
  • Prior leadership positions directing Logistics Engineers in 3PL/supply chain environment.
  • Experience dealing with end users, vendors, and clients.
  • Experience in 3PL environment.
  • E-commerce experience including starting up small to large volume solutions.
  • Experience in multiple warehouse automation applications (Pick to Light, Automated Sortation, Voice Pick, conveyor design, etc.).
  • Experience in LMS implementation and/or steady state execution.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Willing to travel to support project delivery and mentoring activities (historically 25-40% of the time).
