About the Role

Democracy Now! Internships are paid, 20-hour per week, temporary work placements designed to help students, early-career professionals, and career changers gain entry-level skills and experience in archiving, fundraising, and translation within a non-profit setting. The Archive internship program offers a chance to learn about audio-visual archiving and preservation in a dynamic environment, working closely with the Democracy Now! Production team and Archivist.

Responsibilities

  • Catalog incoming video created by Democracy Now! producers and other independent media and news organizations
  • Process paper, book collections and magnetic tape
  • Digitize analog media
  • Create tags and descriptive metadata for media asset management system
  • Perform other duties as needed

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Democracy Now! and commitment to its mission
  • Experience with basics of video and audio editing
  • Proficiency with Mac OS X, Linux and Office suite or equivalent
  • Knowledge of relational database platforms
  • Familiarity with video codecs and open source audio-visual tools preferred
  • Knowledge of current events is helpful
  • Authorization to work in the US
