About the Role

Kepler Communications is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to define and develop electrical hardware and interfaces for next-generation satellite platforms, bridging the gap between bus and payload equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and own hardware solutions utilizing leading technology and practices.
  • Support design reviews to minimize gaps and mentor junior engineers.
  • Conduct pathfinding development for future satellite generations using high-speed interfaces, new memory technology, and processors.
  • Perform and document engineering analysis including derating, reliability, radiation, EMI/EMC, FMECA, and power budgets.
  • Contribute to the development of internal standards and best practices.
  • Maintain thorough technical documentation including design decisions, specifications, block diagrams, and system architecture.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including RF, mechanical, software, and FPGA to develop full product solutions.
  • Drive knowledge-sharing activities to build technical expertise within the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • 7+ years of hardware design experience including schematic and layout.
  • Experience leading multi-board system development and electrical interface planning.
  • Proficiency in schematic design and layout of processors, FPGAs, SoCs, and DAC/ADCs.
  • Familiarity with memory types and interfaces including QSPI, UFS, DDR3/4, and eMMC.
  • Experience with design and routing for high-speed interfaces like JESD204B and 10G Ethernet.
  • Knowledge of clock generation, PLLs, jitter cleaning, and timing stability.
  • Experience working in a rapid, agile environment with evolving requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI-assisted engineering tools.
  • Experience leading projects from architecture through design validation.
  • Proficiency in lab environments using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, multimeters, and VNAs.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to produce thorough documentation.
