About the Role
DMI is seeking a Research Associate to support the design, delivery, analysis, and dissemination of research and evaluation activities. This role is ideal for early-career researchers with strong quantitative skills interested in global health.
Responsibilities
- Conduct quantitative analysis of formative and evaluation data using statistical methods and software, including RCTs and quasi-experimental evaluations.
- Contribute to the interpretation and communication of research findings.
- Write high-quality reports and research outputs, including articles for peer-reviewed journals and scientific publications.
- Liaise with external research agencies to design and carry out surveys, ensuring high scientific standards.
- Support research teams in national offices with routine research activities and project-specific tasks.
- Support the design of rigorous evaluations, providing technical input into M&E approaches.
- Communicate with and provide technical research support to colleagues and sub-contractors.
- Build research capacity of colleagues and sub-contractors in research methods, analysis, and interpretation.
- Stay updated on the latest research evidence, methods, theories, and concepts relevant to DMI's campaigns.
- Communicate trends and new ideas across the organization.
- Perform other tasks as required by DMI.
Requirements
- Master's degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., epidemiology, public health, health economics, social sciences, statistics, biomedical sciences).
- Practical experience with and good working knowledge of statistical analysis software (e.g., Stata, SPSS, R, SAS).
- Strong general IT skills, including questionnaire design, database development, and working with complex spreadsheets.
- An inquisitive and open-minded approach with the ability to learn quickly and apply new methods.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness and ability to take initiative in identifying and implementing solutions.
- Excellent writing skills in English, demonstrated through academic writing.
- Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to understand the pressures of working in an international development context.
- Ability to understand different cultural contexts, especially those in sub-Saharan Africa.
