About the Role

Manager, Economics and Load Forecasting contributes to load forecasts development, economic analysis, and market intelligence across regulatory submissions, business planning, and strategic initiatives. This role involves collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Execute statutory requirements of IESO related to load forecasts and protect the integrity of corporate customer load database.
  • Develop and manage scenario analyses of strategic options, external environment scans, or special studies to support Hydro One strategy development.
  • Develop a provincial electricity market forecast, including analysis of energy service requirements by market segment and energy price forecasts by product.
  • Prepare risk ranges and alternative scenarios to further Hydro One risk management strategies.
  • Review and analyze the plan on an annual or more frequent basis to accommodate changes in Hydro One strategy or market requirements.
  • Recommend and provide supplemental local area and/or short-term forecasts for critical needs.
  • Develop and recommend systems and processes for providing economic assessments and forecasts.
  • Provide analytical and technical support for Hydro One’s Conservation and Demand Management projects and lead the development of future CDM projects.
  • Negotiate and manage contracts with external data services providers.
  • Recommend and monitor systems, processes, models and statistical techniques for forecasting and intelligence gathering.
  • Execute and/or manage approved processes and programs resulting from recommended strategy.
  • Advise and brief Hydro One Networks management and business unit heads on market forecasts and relevant developments.
  • Participate and testify at regulatory hearings regarding economic factors influencing future costs and demand.
  • Develop, define, and ensure access to necessary databases to support Hydro One Network's forecasting capabilities.
  • Prepare and provide load forecasts for the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO).
  • Develop forecasts or load information by customer delivery point to support rate submissions, revenue management and operational planning.
  • Adhere to the Affiliate Relationship Code (ARC) when providing sales data to HOI business units.
  • Develop forecasting tools and provide analytical support as required for Hydro One Networks.
  • Ensure forecast team provides essential input to customers, develops quality products in a timely fashion, and contributes to the success of rate applications.
  • Set the appropriate context for subordinates regarding strategies, policies, accountabilities, tasks, budgets, programs, compliance, and performance targets.
  • Establish an effective framework of policies and procedures for the work of the unit.
  • Ensure own and subordinates' compliance with all legal, regulatory, and corporate requirements.
  • Establish a two-way working relationship with subordinates to solicit their views and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure subordinates are capable and willing to produce desired output and continually improve processes.
  • Assess staff capability for current and future work.
  • Conduct personal effectiveness reviews of subordinate managers/specialists.
  • Build an effective team and mentor and counsel subordinates.
  • Translate Hydro One Networks goals and objectives into a direction for the business.
  • Communicate direction to all staff.
  • Define specific tasks for subordinates to achieve desired results.
  • Communicate expectations regarding collateral relationships among subordinate managers and specialists.
  • Provide subordinates with appropriate knowledge, skills, information, work procedures, and equipment to facilitate responsible behavior.
  • Provide a work environment and facilities where health and safety incidents are minimized.
  • Provide a work environment that supports and values diversity and is free from harassment.
  • Ensure subordinates comply with all legal, regulatory, corporate, and local policies and procedures.
