About the Role

The Technical Project Engineer is a key member of the Royal Ballet and Opera (RBO) Estates & Facilities team, responsible for the planning, delivery, and technical oversight of critical infrastructure and lifecycle projects across the Covent Garden estate and associated properties. This role ensures that engineering, building fabric, infrastructure, and compliance projects are delivered to the highest standards while safeguarding the operational continuity of a busy, world leading performance venue.

Responsibilities

Plan, deliver, and technically oversee critical infrastructure and lifecycle projects.
Ensure engineering, building fabric, infrastructure, and compliance projects are delivered to the highest standards.
Safeguard the operational continuity of a busy, world leading performance venue.
Work closely with production, technical, front-of-house, and artistic teams to coordinate works around performances, rehearsals, and public activity.
Manage contractors and multi-disciplinary project teams.
Produce and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and schedules.
Work around strict operational constraints and high-profile events.

Requirements

A degree or equivalent qualification in engineering (mechanical, electrical, building services, or related).
Significant experience delivering engineering, construction, or technical projects within live environments (theatres, arts venues, heritage estates, hospitals, education campuses, or similar).
Knowledge of BS working standards and practices in the UK is essential.
A strong understanding of building services engineering (mechanical, electrical, HVAC, controls, BMS, fire systems).
Strong experience managing contractors and multi-disciplinary project teams.
Ability to produce and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and schedules.
Demonstrable ability to work around strict operational constraints and high-profile events.

Strong communication skills, able to speak to both technical and non-technical staff.
Proficiency in project management software.
Proficiency in documentation methods.
Excellent organisational skills.
