About the Role

As a Data Science Manager, you will leverage advanced data science and analytics techniques to support business strategy and decision-making. You will work closely with business units to generate insights into critical business challenges and translate them into practical recommendations. You will also contribute to fostering a data-driven organizational culture using the latest technologies such as machine learning and natural language processing.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the resolution of critical business issues using data science and advanced analytics.
  • Create new analytical opportunities using advanced technologies like machine learning, natural language processing, and large language models.
  • Generate insights from quantitative and qualitative data to maximize business value.
  • Translate analytical results into actionable recommendations to support management and business unit decision-making.
  • Act as a strategic partner to key stakeholders, including the Commercial department.
  • Collaborate with relevant departments to formulate data and analytics strategies and priorities.
  • Promote the utilization of analytical infrastructure in collaboration with Data, IT, and Insights & Analytics teams.
  • Drive the execution of data utilization initiatives in cooperation with domestic and international stakeholders.
  • Foster a culture of data utilization and decision-making within business units.
  • Clearly explain analytical results to stakeholders with varying levels of data literacy.
  • Manage the quality of advanced analytics projects and select appropriate analytical methods.
  • Create value through collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in statistics, mathematics, physics, data science, computer science, or a related quantitative field is preferred.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
  • Over 7 years of practical experience in data science and advanced analytics, or over 5 years of relevant practical experience after obtaining a Ph.D.
  • Expertise and practical experience in advanced analytical methods such as machine learning and predictive modeling.
  • Experience in data preparation, data integration, transformation, cleansing, and feature engineering.
  • Programming skills using Python and SQL (experience with R is a plus).
  • Experience leading data science or analytics-related projects from planning to implementation.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Business-level Japanese proficiency.
  • Comfortable communicating in a global environment (English).
