About the Role
As a Data Science Manager, you will leverage advanced data science and analytics techniques to support business strategy and decision-making. You will work closely with business units to generate insights into critical business challenges and translate them into practical recommendations. You will also contribute to fostering a data-driven organizational culture using the latest technologies such as machine learning and natural language processing.
Responsibilities
- Lead the resolution of critical business issues using data science and advanced analytics.
- Create new analytical opportunities using advanced technologies like machine learning, natural language processing, and large language models.
- Generate insights from quantitative and qualitative data to maximize business value.
- Translate analytical results into actionable recommendations to support management and business unit decision-making.
- Act as a strategic partner to key stakeholders, including the Commercial department.
- Collaborate with relevant departments to formulate data and analytics strategies and priorities.
- Promote the utilization of analytical infrastructure in collaboration with Data, IT, and Insights & Analytics teams.
- Drive the execution of data utilization initiatives in cooperation with domestic and international stakeholders.
- Foster a culture of data utilization and decision-making within business units.
- Clearly explain analytical results to stakeholders with varying levels of data literacy.
- Manage the quality of advanced analytics projects and select appropriate analytical methods.
- Create value through collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Requirements
- Master's degree or higher in statistics, mathematics, physics, data science, computer science, or a related quantitative field is preferred.
- Experience in the pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
- Over 7 years of practical experience in data science and advanced analytics, or over 5 years of relevant practical experience after obtaining a Ph.D.
- Expertise and practical experience in advanced analytical methods such as machine learning and predictive modeling.
- Experience in data preparation, data integration, transformation, cleansing, and feature engineering.
- Programming skills using Python and SQL (experience with R is a plus).
- Experience leading data science or analytics-related projects from planning to implementation.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills.
- Business-level Japanese proficiency.
- Comfortable communicating in a global environment (English).
