About the Role
You will work closely with founders and a small team from MIT, Harvard Medical School, Baker Lab, and Radical Numerics. This role offers a steep learning curve with evolving responsibilities, providing context, trust, and resources for rapid advancement. Strong judgment leads to increased responsibility and ownership of new workflows, modalities, programs, or core tasks.
Responsibilities
- Lead new therapeutic programs from concept through early validation in areas such as contraception, menstrual suppression, stress resilience, cognition, exercise mimetics, recovery, and sleep.
- Propose ambitious, scientifically grounded program ideas to expand human health or capability.
- Translate scientific ideas into executable programs by defining targets, mechanisms, modalities, assay strategies, biomarkers, translational paths, budgets, timelines, and kill criteria.
- Select appropriate modalities for projects, including RNA, small molecules, peptides, polymers, biologics-adjacent approaches, or other fast-iteration platforms.
- Execute proposals through target selection, literature review, experimental design, molecule sourcing, assay development, in vitro and in vivo testing, data review, and program decisions.
- Build teams and infrastructure for promising programs, including hiring scientists, identifying advisors, selecting partners, sourcing animal models, procuring instrumentation, and managing execution.
- Lead programs while staying close to the science and data, with potential for significant early validation capital up to $1M for initial experiments and more for continued investment.
Requirements
- Experience creating or helping to create a drug candidate that advanced into clinical trials or reached the market.
- Proven ability to originate and advance scientific programs, not just contribute to others' roadmaps.
- Demonstrated examples of identifying promising mechanisms or opportunities, designing experimental paths, driving execution, and producing concrete outcomes.
- Motivated by high-impact biological problems including sleep, cognition, reproductive health, disease resistance, recovery, aging, and human performance constraints.
- Strong scientific judgment to critically evaluate papers, mechanisms, phenotypes, or therapeutic ideas.
- Ability to define targets, modalities, assay plans, biomarkers, model systems, translational paths, and decision points.
- High-agency, precise, skeptical, and execution-oriented approach.
- Ability to move quickly while maintaining scientific rigor.
