About the Role
Frontier Health is seeking an Applied Science / Research Engineer Intern to collaborate with the research team on live healthcare AI problems. This role involves owning a research question from conception to deployment, with the opportunity to see your work impact real patients. It offers hands-on experience from day one, with real responsibility and direct access to senior researchers.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and evaluate machine learning models on real healthcare administrative and pathway data.
- Generate and curate data for training, working on evaluations and ensuring model performance exceeds expectations.
- Develop tools and frameworks for data generation, model training, evaluation, and deployment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address complex use cases using agents.
- Work closely with research and engineering to transition work from notebook to live NHS environments.
Requirements
- Proficiency in writing clean, readable Python.
- Ability to navigate a real codebase with minimal supervision.
- Solid grounding in machine learning fundamentals.
- Instinct to independently solve problems.
- Comfort with modern ML frameworks (PyTorch, scikit-learn).
- Proactive approach to identifying and addressing the next steps.
- Commitment to output quality and user safety.
- Low-ego, collaborative, and eager to learn.
- Proven track record of good work in personal projects, research, or industry.
