About the Role

Frontier Health is seeking an Applied Science / Research Engineer Intern to collaborate with the research team on live healthcare AI problems. This role involves owning a research question from conception to deployment, with the opportunity to see your work impact real patients. It offers hands-on experience from day one, with real responsibility and direct access to senior researchers.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and evaluate machine learning models on real healthcare administrative and pathway data.
  • Generate and curate data for training, working on evaluations and ensuring model performance exceeds expectations.
  • Develop tools and frameworks for data generation, model training, evaluation, and deployment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address complex use cases using agents.
  • Work closely with research and engineering to transition work from notebook to live NHS environments.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in writing clean, readable Python.
  • Ability to navigate a real codebase with minimal supervision.
  • Solid grounding in machine learning fundamentals.
  • Instinct to independently solve problems.
  • Comfort with modern ML frameworks (PyTorch, scikit-learn).
  • Proactive approach to identifying and addressing the next steps.
  • Commitment to output quality and user safety.
  • Low-ego, collaborative, and eager to learn.
  • Proven track record of good work in personal projects, research, or industry.
