About the Role

Bilingual Educators fluent in English/Mandarin and/or Cantonese will assist with the preparation and delivery of bilingual nutrition and cooking workshops at farmers markets, farmstands, and Health Centers from August to November 2026. The Stellar Farmers Markets (SFM) program seeks engaging community interpreters for a 17-week nutrition education job opportunity. SFM staff engage New Yorkers in interactive nutrition education workshops in underserved neighborhoods to increase fruit and vegetable consumption. Educators will build professional skills in public speaking, culinary arts, nutrition, and bilingual interpretation using a trauma-informed approach, promoting food joy and community connection. This role offers insights into community nutrition education and contributes to public health equity.

Responsibilities

Participate in a required, paid 5-day training in July 2026.
Participate in required monthly Monday afternoon staff meetings at the Health Department office in Long Island City, Queens.
Collaborate with a team of three or more at each workshop site.
Prepare for and orally interpret in-person nutrition education workshops and cooking demonstrations from English to Mandarin and/or Cantonese.
Translate some written signage and educational messaging if able.
Assist the Nutrition Educator with the preparation and implementation of nutrition education sessions.
Assist the Nutrition Educator with survey distribution and completion.
Assist the Nutrition Educator with data collection.
Assist the Culinary Educator with food preparation tasks in between workshops.
Actively participate in the proper set-up and breakdown of the tent, cooking equipment, and educational materials.
Follow the curriculum and maintain the integrity and fidelity of programming.
Actively participate in the marketing and promotion of programming at NYC farmers markets, farmstands, and Health Centers.
Maintain all safety protocols at workshop sites.
Maintain and encourage environmentally sustainable practices at workshop sites.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall goals and mission of the department/organization.

Requirements

Oral fluency in English & Mandarin and/or Cantonese.
Dynamic personality and excellent presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Ability to work in multi-cultural settings with racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse populations.
Commitment to and strong interest in teamwork and effective communication practices.
Willing and able to stand for long periods of time and work outside, including in inclement weather conditions.
Willing and able to regularly lift and transport items weighing up to 25 pounds.
Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Must live in the New York City Tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT).
