About the Role

Bilingual Educators, fluent in English/Spanish, will assist with the preparation and delivery of bilingual nutrition and cooking workshops at farmers markets, farmstands, and Health Centers from August to November 2026. The Stellar Farmers Markets (SFM) program aims to increase fruit and vegetable consumption by enhancing New Yorkers’ knowledge and skills in healthy eating. Educators will gain professional skills in public speaking, culinary arts, and nutrition, while promoting food joy and community connection.

Responsibilities

Participate in a required, paid 5-day training in July 2026.
Attend required monthly Monday afternoon staff meetings at the Health Department office in Long Island City, Queens.
Collaborate with a team of three or more at each workshop site.
Prepare for and orally interpret in-person nutrition education workshops and cooking demonstrations from English to Spanish.
Translate some written signage and educational messaging if able.
Assist the Nutrition Educator with preparation and implementation of nutrition education sessions.
Assist the Nutrition Educator with survey distribution and completion.
Assist the Nutrition Educator with data collection.
Assist the Culinary Educator with food preparation tasks in between workshops.
Participate in the proper set-up and breakdown of the tent, cooking equipment, and educational materials.
Follow the curriculum and maintain integrity and fidelity of programming.
Participate in the marketing and promotion of programming at NYC farmers markets, farmstands, and Health Centers.
Maintain all safety protocols at workshop sites.
Maintain and encourage environmentally sustainable practices at workshop sites.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall goals and mission of the department/organization.

Requirements

Oral fluency in English & Spanish.
Dynamic personality and excellent presentation, interpersonal, and communications skills.
Ability to work in multi-cultural settings with diverse populations.
Commitment to and strong interest in teamwork and effective communication practices.
Willing and able to stand for long periods of time and work outside, including in inclement weather conditions.
Willing and able to regularly lift and transport items weighing up to 25 pounds.
Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Must live in the New York City Tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT).
