About the Role

The Donor Experience Officer is responsible for managing a portfolio of mid-level donors giving between $2,500 and $9,999. This role will help strengthen donor retention, deepen engagement, and support a strong pipeline of donors with the potential to move into major giving. This role will use a relationship-based donor engagement model to provide personalized stewardship through phone calls, emails, handwritten notes, impact updates, and timely donor follow-up. The Donor Experience Officer will also partner closely with Major Gifts, Direct Marketing, Prospect Research, and Communications to ensure donors receive a thoughtful and consistent experience. This position is ideal for a relationship-driven fundraising professional who is highly organized, comfortable managing a large donor portfolio, and able to use data and personalized outreach to strengthen donor engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 1,000 mid-level donors through consistent, relationship-driven outreach.
  • Build personalized donor engagement plans using calls, emails, handwritten notes, and tailored impact updates.
  • Implement timely gift acknowledgment and stewardship practices, including follow-up within 48 hours of donor gifts.
  • Conduct donor discovery conversations to better understand giving motivations, communication preferences, and philanthropic interests.
  • Support strategies to retain, reactivate, and upgrade mid-level donors.
  • Partner with Direct Marketing colleagues to ensure mid-level donors receive a more personalized and appropriate solicitation experience.
  • Track donor engagement, giving trends, retention rates, and portfolio performance to help inform strategy.
  • Identify donors with increased giving capacity and interest in deeper engagement with Action Against Hunger.
  • Partner with Prospect Research and Major Gifts colleagues to qualify and transition high-potential donors when appropriate.
  • Help develop stewardship templates, acknowledgment tools, donor communications, and digital engagement content.
  • Maintain accurate donor records in the CRM, including outreach activity, donor preferences, capacity indicators, and cultivation milestones.
  • Collaborate across Development, Direct Marketing, Prospect Research, Major Gifts, and Brand and Communications to support a consistent donor experience.
  • Contribute to special projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 1–3 years of experience in fundraising, donor engagement, high-volume account management, sales, or relationship management preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create personalized and compelling donor outreach.
  • Comfort making donor calls and building relationships through remote and digital engagement.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a large donor portfolio with accuracy and discipline.
  • Experience using CRM systems such as Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, or similar platforms preferred.
  • Ability to use data to track outreach, monitor donor activity, and support segmentation.
  • Strong judgment, emotional intelligence, discretion, and professionalism when working with donor information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and digital communication tools.
