About the Role

The MAS roles are hybrid, balancing field and head office activities based on business needs. This role serves as the Pfizer Japan medical scientific point of contact for external stakeholders, acting as a scientific and medical leader to identify unmet medical needs, develop medical plans, and establish clinical evidence.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate medical and scientific leadership and expertise.
  • Ensure the highest scientific standards during in/external activities.
  • Develop local medical plans aligned with global plans to address local unmet medical needs and fill data gaps.
  • Implement local medical strategies and life cycle clinical plans for inline and pipeline medicines/vaccines.
  • Provide and exchange medical/scientific information with medical facilities and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to decisions on medical strategies for assigned products to ensure safe, proper, and effective use.
  • Drive understanding of disease burden and product attributes to enhance safe and efficacious use.
  • Contribute to department/team goals and participate in cross-organizational projects.
  • Identify unmet medical needs and healthcare disparities.
  • Execute customer-facing medical activities including scientific communication, advisory board meetings, educational seminars, and data generation initiatives.
  • Create an activity plan with senior medical management to address unmet needs and data gaps.
  • Develop a customer-facing part of the Medical Plan to establish collaborative scientific relationships.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and high-quality scientific exchange, bringing insights into the organization to shape strategy.
  • Collaborate with medical stakeholders management as a scientific expert.
  • Establish strong collaborative scientific relationships through non-promotional activities like scientific exchanges.
  • Maintain a comprehensive stakeholder map and communicate effectively at an expert level.
  • Follow up on clinical investigator-sponsored research and medical grants.
  • Acquire and maintain extensive, up-to-date medical and pharmaceutical information.
  • Deliver key medical and scientific activities within the medical plan, such as educational materials and real-world evidence generation.
  • Enhance opportunities for evidence creation by sharing customer insights.
  • Optimize patient centricity of medical communications and deliverables.
  • Establish deep and enduring peer-to-peer scientific relationships with leading HCPs and specialists.
  • Maintain and enhance cross-BU alignment on metrics.
  • Collect and analyze insights prior to meetings to provide deep medical and scientific expertise.
  • Align, contribute, and collaborate with relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Provide feedback on product life cycle strategies to related divisions/departments.
  • Share medical/scientific information and insights with Marketing colleagues to develop brand plans.
  • Provide scientific input for scientific meetings and materials.
  • Provide medical education programs with medical societies or relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide medical/scientific input into protocol feasibility assessments for clinical trial proposals.
  • Collaborate with Development Japan/global development to identify appropriate investigators/sites.
  • Drive timely completion of Pfizer-sponsored clinical trials.
  • Demonstrate scientific/medical leadership and provide input into global clinical teams and DJ.
  • Support DJ on clinical development programs and regulatory interactions.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of product(s)/therapeutic area(s) medical strategy.
  • Provide accurate, high-quality, and unbiased medical information to HCPs and external experts.
  • Manage unsolicited medical requests.
  • Provide scientific insight and support to field- and head office based commercial colleagues.
  • Collaborate with the cross-functional team to develop impactful and compliant promotional and non-promotional materials.
  • Collect and share insights from HCPs and stakeholders to inform medical strategy and business opportunities.
  • Manage local advisory boards to gain customer insights.
  • Present the scientific perspective on selected topics during media-briefings (if media-trained).
  • Observe the code of conduct, company’s regulations, and compliance.
  • Ensure awareness of code of conduct for Medical Affairs and observe it.
  • Give promotional or non-promotional explanations depending on the related departments.
  • Conduct activities in compliance with MHLW Guidelines for Prescription Drug Sales Information Activities.
  • Ensure activities and communications are conducted in compliance with all policies, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Ensure awareness of responsibility for reporting adverse events.
  • Gather and report safety information for all Pfizer products.
  • Attend training programs on obligation of assigned safety reporting.
  • Identify unmet medical needs and candidate therapies for potential medical interventions.
  • Respond rapidly to critical supply issues from the medical perspective.

Requirements

  • Minimum requirement 4-year university undergraduate degree AND master’s degree in life science, or Pharmacists 4-year university graduates with pharmacist license and master’s degree or equivalent life science research experience, or 6–year university graduates with pharmacist license, or Nurses with a master’s degree, or Veterinarians, or Dentists, or MDs.
  • MD (clinical experience, board certification preferred), or PhD in Life Science.
  • Medical/ pharmaceutical expert knowledge of therapeutic disease area/ products.
  • Ability to communicate appropriately and build good relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate effectively with teams and across functions by demonstrating Pfizer’s Values & Behaviors and the agility to learn from others.
  • Capable of medical discussion with relevant departments and external HCPs.
  • Understands compliance and relevant laws/regulations in the pharmaceutical industry and advocates the appropriate use of the products.
  • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and understanding of internal organization structure, key stakeholders and strategies.
  • Can quickly acquire necessary medical/ scientific knowledge and skills through self-learning.
  • MA/DJ experience and / or research experience preferred.
  • Scientific publication experience preferred.
  • Able to understand written and spoken English and Japanese in assigned therapeutic disease area, and scientific interactions.
  • Minimum TOEIC score of 730.
