About the Role

We are seeking a qualified lawyer with experience in regulatory law to join our UK Legal team at a pivotal time for the energy industry. In this role, you will provide expert legal advice to National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) on a broad range of strategically important regulatory matters, helping to shape and support the evolving regulatory framework that underpins the UK's energy transition. Working closely with colleagues across the UK Legal, Regulatory and wider business teams, you will play a key role in enabling critical projects and business objectives. You will advise on a diverse portfolio of regulatory issues, translating complex legal matters into clear, practical guidance for stakeholders at all levels. We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in the sector, a passion for supporting the UK's net zero journey, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.

Responsibilities

Provide expert legal advice on NGET's regulatory framework, licence obligations, and evolving industry requirements.
Partner with colleagues across Legal, Regulatory, Customer Connections, and wider business teams to deliver practical, commercially focused advice that supports strategic objectives and major infrastructure projects.
Engage with key external stakeholders, including Ofgem, Government departments, and external legal advisers, supporting regulatory submissions, consultations, investigations, appeals, and policy development activities.
Identify, assess, and advise on regulatory risks and emerging legislative changes, ensuring potential impacts are understood and managed effectively.
Produce clear and accessible legal guidance, including briefing notes, presentations, and training materials.
Collaborate closely with the wider UK Legal team, sharing knowledge and expertise, contributing to cross-functional projects, and supporting a broad range of legal matters.

Requirements

A qualified Solicitor or Barrister with experience in regulatory or competition law gained within private practice, an in-house legal team, or a combination of both.
Excellent communicator with strong written and verbal skills, able to translate complex legal concepts into clear, practical advice for a range of stakeholders.
Collaborative and proactive professional who enjoys building strong relationships, working as part of a team, and partnering with colleagues across a diverse and fast-paced business environment.
Well-organised and adaptable, with the ability to manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgement, and deliver high-quality outcomes under pressure.
Passionate about making a difference, with an interest in the energy sector and a desire to contribute to the UK's transition to a cleaner, more sustainable future.
Must have the legal right to work in the UK without requiring sponsorship.
