About the Role

Nscale is seeking a U.S.-based AI & Data Privacy Senior Manager with exceptional people, leadership, and communication skills. This pragmatic leader will operate across complex legal, regulatory, and commercial topics in a results-driven environment, understanding the needs of a rapidly scaling business. The role involves influencing without authority, building relationships with senior stakeholders, and quickly grasping legal, regulatory, operational, and technology concepts, with a strong understanding of key U.S., EU, and APAC privacy laws.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and/or contribute as a subject matter expert (SME) to high priority, complex, varied projects in the U.S. and globally across legal, regulatory, corporate, and tech & ops domains, ensuring privacy-, AI-, and cyber-by-design.
  • Conduct or support DPIAs, TIAs, and AI conformity assessments, liaising with business teams to ensure action.
  • Partner with commercial legal, procurement, security, operations, AI infra, and other teams to ensure proper third-party risk management of suppliers and customers, including due diligence (DD) and contractual controls (privacy, AI, cyber provisions, DPAs, data transfer compliance).
  • Support investor DD, M&A, and similar workstreams as an SME.
  • Partner with cyber, tech & ops, and other teams on incident response and cyber investigations.
  • Design, draft, and oversee the implementation of data and AI policies and processes.
  • Manage DSARs, complaints, or regulatory inquiries from bodies like the ICO.
  • Support the Legal & Compliance team on Board and executive reporting.
  • Lead the execution of Privacy & Information Security Compliance and AI Governance, Risk, and Compliance programs in the U.S., supporting other regions.
  • Engage with stakeholders on enterprise risk management and provide tactical SME support to HR, Marketing, Finance, tech & ops, and other communities.
  • Foster a collaborative environment by actively engaging with cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • U.S.-qualified attorney with several years of experience in-house, preferably in a U.S. or international tech company (e.g., hyperscaler, AI lab); exceptional private practice candidates will be considered.
  • Previous experience and knowledge of data privacy, cyber, AI, and other data laws.
  • Good familiarity with U.S. federal and state data laws, the EU and UK GDPR, the EU AI Act, and similar laws in APAC.
  • Strong analytical and project management skills.
  • Inquisitive and proactive self-starter with attention to detail, accustomed to delivering quality work products under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to think strategically while executing effectively at a tactical and operational level.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
  • High degree of discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive business issues.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Professional Privacy and/or AI qualifications (e.g., IAPP CIPM, CIPP/E or AIGP).
