About the Role

Oxford Dynamics is seeking an Engineering Manager to take direct ownership of a team of exceptional engineers, making them measurably more effective. This role involves running your team with minimal oversight, upholding a high standard, and ensuring the team produces impactful work at the pace required by the mission.

Responsibilities

  • Own the return on your team, diagnosing and removing constraints to value delivery.
  • Make delivery visible by building mechanisms and metrics for inspectable productivity.
  • Coach and grow engineers through 1:1s, feedback, career development, and addressing underperformance.
  • Set and uphold technical standards, code quality, testing, review, and architectural discipline.
  • Stay technically credible to engage in design and code discussions and make sound quality calls.
  • Handle day-to-day operations, clearing blockers and resolving friction for the team.
  • Partner with delivery and product teams to ensure engineers are well-directed and focused.
  • Build the team by recruiting, onboarding, and shaping a high-performing engineering culture.

Requirements

  • Proven experience leading and growing software engineering teams with ownership of engineers' productivity, performance, and development.
  • A genuine engineering background credible enough for technical discussions and decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and act on team delivery issues.
  • Track record of developing engineers through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and performance management.
  • Experience setting and holding engineering standards across products.
  • Comfort operating autonomously with minimal oversight and making judgement calls.
  • Clear, structured communication across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Calm, judgement-led decision making and comfort operating in ambiguity with fast-moving priorities.
  • Eligibility for UK security clearance (BPSS and SC). SC requires 5 years of continuous UK residency.
  • An active SC or DV clearance is a strong advantage.
