About the Role
We’re building the machine learning and optimisation systems that help Monzo provide fast, efficient and resilient customer support at scale. You’ll lead Machine Learning for our Workforce Management vertical, ensuring the right human support supply meets customer demand. This role is for someone close to technical work, excited to grow into a broader leadership role, working on rigorous ML, forecasting, optimisation and operations research problems.
Responsibilities
- Shaping the ML strategy for Workforce Management.
- Leading the design, build and delivery of production ML systems across forecasting, routing, assignment, escalation and time-to-completion prediction.
- Staying close to the technical details to help the team frame problems, choose modelling approaches, define validation, review trade-offs and ship safely.
- Working with leaders to turn ambiguous operational problems into pragmatic, iterative ML systems.
- Coaching and developing Machine Learning Scientists.
- Creating healthy ways of working for the team.
- Contributing to the wider Machine Learning discipline at Monzo.
Requirements
- Recently worked as a hands-on Machine Learning practitioner (e.g., Senior IC, Tech Lead, Team Lead, ML manager).
- Strong foundations in ML, statistics, forecasting, optimisation or operations research.
- Experience building, shipping, or owning ML systems in production.
- Ability to move between technical detail and business context, explaining complex ML ideas clearly.
- Enjoyment and seriousness about coaching others; prior people management experience is a plus.
- Energised by ambiguous problem spaces.
- Focus on customer outcomes and building systems that help people efficiently.
- Adaptable, curious, and excited by quantitative problems.
