About the Role

We are seeking a Lead Engineer to drive the multi-year roadmap, architecture, and technical strategy for World Understanding software components. This role focuses on accelerating the adoption of data-driven and deep learning methodologies to enhance autonomous driving capabilities, safety, and performance through advanced ML system design.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the technical vision and multi-year strategy for World Understanding software including perception, mapping, and fusion.
  • Lead project execution, define engineering processes, and mitigate technical risks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and ensure seamless system integration.
  • Develop state-of-the-art models for various sensor configurations.
  • Increase speed and cost-efficiency of component and system-level model iteration.
  • Incorporate data-driven approaches to improve system performance and safety.
  • Maintain functional architecture design and lead technical design reviews.
  • Drive organizational metrics regarding performance, safety, and quality.
  • Maintain external presence through papers, patents, and presentations.
  • Partner with other Lead Engineers to solve high-impact cross-functional issues.
  • Mentor and support engineers through code reviews and knowledge sharing.
  • Design reusable software components for integrated systems.
  • Uphold software practices including simulation, CI, code review, and HIL/in-vehicle testing.
  • Build validation strategies to resolve complex interactions and evaluate design tradeoffs.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional experience with machine learning applications or applied science.
  • Deep expertise in ML algorithms, frameworks, and data-driven methods.
  • Experience with supervised/unsupervised learning, multi-modality, multi-task training, and temporal/sequential modeling.
  • Experience deploying ML models at scale.
  • Strong R&D potential in algorithm design and large-scale complex systems architecture.
  • Experience with requirements-driven development.
  • Experience with code quality and system safety processes for production code.
  • Practical understanding of real-time system development, performance issues, and testing modalities.
  • Ability to lead in a globally distributed team.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
