About the Role

You will be a core member of the Extensible Operating System (EOS) team in Sydney, building the software that runs the world's largest data centre networks. You will own projects from definition to deployment, making a direct impact on customers and the quality of deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and understand functional and technical requirements for upcoming projects.
  • Write functional specifications, design specifications, test plans, and code.
  • Triage and fix problems in customer networks.
  • Develop automated tests for software.
  • Monitor test execution and fix problems found by tests.
  • Design and develop innovative networking features in C/C++ and Python for Arista's unique, Linux-based EOS.
  • Work closely with product management, customers, and fellow engineers to define functional requirements and technical designs for new EOS capabilities.
  • Take full ownership of work by writing functional specifications, design documents, test plans, and automated tests.
  • Provide technical leadership, contribute to code reviews, and mentor junior engineers.
  • Work directly with Customer Support Engineers to triage, debug, and resolve complex issues found in customer networks.

Requirements

  • A degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering (BSc, MS, or PhD).
  • High proficiency in C/C++.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Solid understanding of operating systems.
  • Proficiency in systems programming, preferably in a UNIX/Linux environment.
  • A strong interest in computer networking technologies.
  • Familiarity with L2/L3 networking protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, Spanning Tree, LACP).
  • Familiarity with infrastructure functions related to distributed systems such as messaging, signaling, databases, and command line interface techniques.
  • Only candidates with Australian Citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency or otherwise a demonstrable legal entitlement to work in Australia for the duration of employment, will be considered for roles in Australia.
