About the Role

As our Design Manager, you will plan, manage and deliver all aspects of project and tender design, ensuring safety, quality, efficiency and compliance. You’ll work collaboratively with internal engineering teams, external consultants and project stakeholders to deliver coordinated, constructible and commercially viable engineering solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage design activities in accordance with UGL’s Design Management Standard.
  • Develop concept designs for tenders and detailed designs for projects.
  • Oversee design coordination across internal teams and external consultants.
  • Ensure designs meet all safety, environmental, construction and operational requirements.
  • Support estimating, procurement, construction and commissioning teams.
  • Manage design schedules, budgets, risks, reviews, verifications and certifications.
  • Liaise with clients, authorities, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Conduct constructability and operability reviews and lead risk workshops.
  • Prepare design management plans, filing systems and close‑out reports.
  • Ensure compliance with OHS&E, contract requirements and ISO 9001 processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related) with eligibility for Engineers Australia Member / CPEng.
  • Significant design and construction experience in gas‑fired power station projects.
  • Background with major OEMs (highly desirable)
  • Strong capability in developing concept and detailed designs for energy projects.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, MS Project and Autodesk CAD software.
  • At least five years’ experience in a similar design leadership role.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Relevant screening checks will be conducted as part of the recruitment process.
  • Checks may include a national criminal history check.
  • Requirement for pre-employment medical assessment including drug and alcohol screen.
