About the Role
Lead the Billing team within Kraken Customer, a part of the larger Financials product group. This team builds systems for calculating customer charges, orchestrating the billing flow, and sending bills. As Head of Engineering, ensure focus on high-impact projects and provide the team with necessary resources.
Responsibilities
- Lead an engineering team of roughly 40 engineers across 4 squads located around the globe with almost complete independence.
- Directly manage 4+ leads and build an impeccably strong leadership layer below you.
- Optimize ways of working and drive high performance, optimizing for efficiency, velocity, and team happiness.
- Build strong relationships with other leaders within and around Financials to facilitate strong collaboration.
- Manage capacity planning, hiring planning, and interviewing to consistently raise the bar.
- Roll out global strategic objectives within the team, supporting the team through change, building trust, and managing expectations.
- Work closely with the Head of Engineering community and Senior Management to define global strategic direction and objectives, advocating on behalf of the team.
- Drive operational excellence, reducing incidents in production and time to mitigation through quality and ownership.
- Become an expert in the Billing products and drive the team to build an accurate, reliable, cohesive product.
Requirements
- Experienced leader who has successfully led other engineering leaders at scale.
- Not hands-on coding; requires deep systems thinking, strong understanding of software architecture, and ability to quickly develop a comprehensive understanding of complex technical environments.
- Proven experience leading large high-performance teams and driving engineering excellence.
- Proven experience of developing strong leaders and positively impacting teams through them.
- Strong communication skills in English.
- Ability to operate largely independently and make decisions in the best interests of Kraken.
- Strong sense of delivery and product - balancing speed, quality, and competing priorities to hit deadlines while building a solid cohesive product.
