About the Role
Lunar is seeking a Staff Frontend Engineer to tackle complex interface and interaction problems within a mission-driven team. The role involves rebuilding the software that clinicians rely on daily, focusing on creating clean, robust, and intuitive interfaces.
Responsibilities
- Build a clinical design system from scratch, including a component library and design system.
- Rethink and improve hospital software workflows to create fast, intuitive user experiences.
- Develop interfaces that render real-time clinical data instantly and accurately.
- Architect the data layer, caching, and subscription patterns over GraphQL for real-time data.
- Engineer accessible, resilient, and performant user interfaces for high-stakes settings.
- Transform dense clinical and operational data into clear, glanceable interfaces.
- Define frontend architecture, including patterns, state management, and rendering strategies.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of professional software engineering experience with a focus on frontend.
- Expertise in TypeScript, JavaScript, React, HTML, CSS, browser internals, rendering performance, state management, and real-time reactive UIs against GraphQL APIs.
- Comfortable adopting new tools as needed.
- Experience with client-side data loading and management, including caching, freshness, ownership, and optimizing push updates.
- Understanding of the browser rendering cycle and ability to profile and optimize for responsive interfaces.
- Well-versed in modern React patterns and functional programming principles, including advanced custom hooks.
- Deep fluency with async control flow in JavaScript (Promises, async/await) and experience diagnosing issues in real-time systems.
- Strong ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, and innovative team environment.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills with a track record of tackling challenging engineering problems.
- Intellectually curious with a growth mindset, applying fundamentals and first principles thinking.
- Familiarity with open-source technology and a desire to experiment with new solutions.
- Experience building 0-1 products with strong product sense.
- Excellent communication skills for articulating technical decisions and best practices.
- Passion for making a meaningful impact in the healthcare industry is a plus.
