About the Role

The Academic Director will lead a teaching team in the Business and Technology School, providing academic leadership for University of Huddersfield and Study Group pathway courses. Responsibilities include overseeing Teaching and Learning, Research Strategies, professional body accreditation, and student success, while also managing academic staff and liaising with university representatives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide inspirational leadership across academic teams, working collaboratively with campus management, UoH, and central Study Group teams on learning & teaching and research strategies.
  • Own the design, development, implementation, evaluation, and review of learning and teaching and research strategies for the University of Huddersfield London.
  • Implement continuous improvements to enable the Business School to achieve targets for student outcomes and success.
  • Own compliance and liaison for UoH relevant professional body accreditation, including AACSB and BCS.
  • Undertake curriculum planning and staff resourcing requirements.
  • Attend and contribute to relevant university partnership Boards and committees, reporting regularly.
  • Review student outcomes and feedback to identify development opportunities and propose actions.
  • Contribute to meetings, forums, or projects within the Study Group network.
  • Provide effective management and leadership to the academic team and direct reports.
  • Maintain high academic standing, lead by example, and build on quality teaching and learning.
  • Recruit academic staff with appropriate qualifications and experience.
  • Plan the allocation of teaching resources within budget to meet operational margins and workload allocations.
  • Organize peer observations and use feedback to create annual personal development plans.
  • Create a culture of business engagement with academics and embed employability activities.
  • Identify and promote scholarly activity and research opportunities, supporting and mentoring academics.
  • Manage the effective academic delivery of all courses in accordance with validation and course definitive documents.
  • Ensure the VLE element of courses is effectively managed with a clear framework for standards and enhancement.
  • Raise opportunities for discussion to introduce new courses and products.
  • Co-create effective internal partnerships with key stakeholders in Study Group’s Education & Student Experience and Quality Assurance & Engagement teams.
  • Address day-to-day academic issues effectively and efficiently.
  • Monitor academic indicators and outcomes, ensuring timely interventions.
  • Protect and promote the name and reputation of Study Group and UoH, acting as an ambassador.
  • Implement procedures in accordance with the UoH Handbook of Quality Assurance processes.
  • Ensure delivery of all Study Group courses align with quality frameworks, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with relevant professional bodies, including AACSB and BCS.
  • Manage security and integrity of assessment processes, ensuring effective feedback and fair handling of impropriety.
  • Co-lead on the development of and contribute to the management of the course committee and Student Panel.
  • Contribute to the Annual Evaluation Process and preparation of Annual Evaluation Reports.
  • Provide reports, data, and recommendations to key partnership and academic governance meetings.
  • Actively contribute to the University’s ongoing accreditation processes.
  • Ensure high-quality service levels are delivered to students and stakeholders.
  • Have due regard to Prevent and all other regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in preparing documentation for new and existing course approvals.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with key contacts at UoH.
  • Facilitate interaction between UoH staff and centre academics.
  • Act as a key representative in the partnership, interacting with and leveraging partner relations.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to collaborate with the UoH main campus.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as required.

Requirements

  • Terminal / doctoral degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Consistent, current research record and profile at the appropriate level (ABS 3/4*) enabling leadership and mentorship of research outputs.
  • Fellowship of Advance HE or to be achieved within 12 months of appointment.
  • Track record of successful course and academic leadership and management.
  • Experience managing and/or supervising staff and resources.
  • Experience of a business school comprised of both undergraduate and postgraduate higher education.
  • Teaching relevant subjects in UK higher education.
  • Experience in the design and delivery of high quality undergraduate and postgraduate curricula/module.
  • Experience leading innovation and facilitating change.
  • Experience teaching international students.
  • Experience planning and running complex education courses and programmes.
