About the Role

The Paraeducator assists with academic and behavior support for students in special education and regular classroom settings, both in-person and virtually. This role complements the instructional program to maximize student learning and helps students access all aspects of the educational environment.

Responsibilities

• Work with students in small groups or one-to-one to reinforce learning in core academic and specialized subjects.
• Implement behavior intervention plans using positive reinforcement and behavior modification strategies.
• Facilitate social interactions and positive relationships between students with disabilities and their peers.
• Model appropriate behavior and provide emotional support and guidance to students.
• Support student participation in field trips, assemblies, and school productions.
• Provide testing accommodations, including supervision for extended time or separate testing locations.
• Maintain accurate data trackers, progress records, and logs to report student progress.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and cooperative learning environment.
• Assist students with personal hygiene, grooming, toileting, diapering, eating, and dressing.
• Report suspected health problems to appropriate school personnel.
• Maintain confidentiality of student records and classroom information.
• Cover instructional duties during the temporary absence of the Education Specialist.
• Attend and participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and Student Study Meetings.
• Participate in professional growth opportunities and maintain professional standards.
• Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
• Adhere to health and safety guidelines from the CDC, CDE, and public health agencies.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• A.A. degree, B.A. degree, or minimum 48 college units.
• Passing score of 460 on the ETS ParaPro Assessment or passing the CBEST exam.
• Commitment to the KIPP mission, vision, and anti-racist education.
• Belief that all students can achieve at the highest academic levels.
• Strong content area knowledge.
• Proficiency in Google Suite applications including Classroom, Hangout, Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
• Ability to utilize instructional technology such as Zoom and Nearpod.

• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives.
• Ability to work with interruptions and concentrate for long periods.
• Bilingual skills in languages reflecting student populations (preferred).
