About the Role

The Control Room Operator reports to the Shift Manager and plays a critical role in monitoring tunnel boring machine (TBM) operations, tunnel systems, and emergency tracking systems. This position serves as a central communication point during production activities, ensuring that any abnormal conditions, incidents, or emergencies are promptly identified, communicated, and escalated.

Responsibilities

• Continuously monitor operating parameters for two (2) Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) through the control room systems.
• Monitor tunnel infrastructure systems for two (2) tunnels, including ventilation systems, airflow, tunnel lighting, and emergency box alarms and notifications.
• Monitor emergency tracking systems, including the location of personnel and assets within the tunnels and TBM work areas.
• Work closely with the Shift Manager, Shift Superintendent, and TBM Operators to identify, communicate, and report abnormal operating conditions or system alarms.
• Coordinate communications between management, supervisors, crews, and other stakeholders during operational events or incidents.
• Follow and implement emergency response procedures in the event of accidents, fires, medical emergencies, equipment failures, or other critical situations.
• Maintain continuous availability throughout the shift to respond to phone calls, radio communications, and operational inquiries.
• Assist in documenting incidents, observations, and operational communications as required.
• Support the safe and efficient operation of tunneling activities by ensuring timely reporting and escalation of issues.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to monitor multiple systems simultaneously.
• Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergencies or high-pressure situations.
• Basic computer proficiency and ability to work with monitoring and control systems.
• Commitment to maintaining a safe, productive, and team-oriented work environment.
