About the Role

As an In-school Instructor, you will deliver weekly lessons, connect with students, and foster an engaging classroom environment using Mission Bit’s project-based curriculum. This role is student-facing and ideal for those passionate about community, social justice, and coding, aiming to uplift Bay Area youth and bridge the tech divide.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver weekly lessons using Mission Bit’s in-house project-based curriculum.
  • Create an inclusive and community-based classroom culture aligned with Mission Bit's core values.
  • Prepare and facilitate four lessons per week, adjusting to meet diverse learners' needs.
  • Ensure students develop sufficient understanding to build their final project.
  • Foster individual and meaningful relationships with students.
  • Grade student assessments.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the school’s teacher of record.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings.
  • Suggest and implement new ideas to improve Mission Bit and its curriculum.
  • Communicate course progress to students and their families.
  • Communicate student progress and success to Program Staff and the Innovative Learning Manager.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of teaching high school-age students in a formal education setting (STEM classroom experience preferred).
  • Associate's degree or higher in Education, Computer Science, or related fields (may be substituted with 2 years of formal classroom experience).
  • Demonstrated competence in Web Design (HTML/CSS) and Python.
  • Values aligned with Mission Bit and a passion for equity in STEM.
  • Comfortable in public speaking situations with strong communication skills.
  • Experience working with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Self-starting with the ability to effectively work autonomously.
