About the Role

The Quality Manager I is responsible for implementing, improving, and executing Quality Management Systems (QMS) and project-specific quality program requirements, ensuring design and construction align with company and contract standards.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a quality champion for projects, overseeing quality of works, material management, documentation, and close-out for safe, efficient, and profitable execution.
  • Coach, mentor, and train project staff in quality management principles and project-specific requirements.
  • Mentor Quality staff to advance their careers and improve retention.
  • Lead quality processes including work planning, pre-activity meetings, material management, Quality Incident Reports, Lesson Sharing, and follow-up inspections.
  • Establish, monitor, and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Quality Incident Reports (QIRs) for continuous improvement.
  • Analyze project KPIs, evaluate trends, and provide improvement strategies.
  • Routinely audit project quality programs using Project QC Evaluation and other tools for continuous improvement.
  • Provide feedback to Operations and Quality Management on major QIRs, project team relationships, owner/client perceptions, and recurring non-conformances.
  • Direct inspection, testing, and documentation of works.
  • Schedule inspections and testing in coordination with operations, consultants, material laboratories, and clients.
  • Create and implement project-specific inspection and test plans, quality control plans, and other necessary procedures.
  • Support material specification review, including concrete mix design and thermal control.
  • Manage risk strategy to improve project profitability by reducing risk and improving efficiency through process management and mitigation.
  • Maintain relationships with owners, clients, subcontractors, design partners, and stakeholders to support project partnering and issue resolution.
  • Support Site Safety to ensure project completion in accordance with established safety procedures and goals.
  • Monitor project quality costs and resources, working to stay within as-bid budgets.
  • Provide feedback to optimize project billing returns, risk reporting, and testing accuracy, while protecting Walsh from claim exposure.
  • Monitor and report rework costs via the QIR system.

Requirements

  • AEC Bachelor’s degree is preferred or equivalent related field experience with International Code Counsel, NICET, etc.
  • Current certification required.
  • USACE/NAVFAC/NRC Construction Quality Management certification preferred but not required.
  • Industry certifications for testing and inspection as required to review and certify that the test, inspection, and procedures satisfy requirements.
  • Limited travel for projects as necessary.
  • Level 1 QCM.
  • Minimum 7 years of AEC experience, with 3 years preferred in a Quality role.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage time.
  • Knowledge of standards, specifications, and publications of job-related duties.
