About the Role

Provide technical support for development activities and project management oversight for the construction of transmission facilities for wind and solar farms across the United States, with support to other markets as necessary. Conduct due diligence reviews of all project construction-related documents, contracts, and field work.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical due diligence and budget review of transmission and other projects during the development phase.
  • Review construction documents for completeness and compliance with utility interconnect agreements, power purchase agreements, land lease agreements, environmental permits, and good industry practice.
  • Collaborate with Pattern’s preconstruction and development groups on the development, solicitation, bid evaluation, contract review, and award of construction services contracts.
  • Oversee the interface with major equipment suppliers, ensuring coordinated division of responsibility among stakeholders, EPC contractors, and turbine suppliers.
  • Manage the schedule and delivery provisions of major equipment agreements to align with project needs and EPC contract documents.
  • Execute project construction, ensuring accountability for safety, quality, cost, and schedule.
  • Serve as the lead negotiator for project scope and schedule specifics.
  • Support construction managers in project execution, including quality, safety, permitting, and execution oversight.
  • Oversee project interface with the interconnect utility, ensuring timely provision of required documents and drawings, and review monthly progress reports.
  • Manage third-party technical engineering support for project work, focusing on the design and performance of major equipment.
  • Liaise with Independent Engineers for the review of active construction projects, ensuring timely approval of design documents and resolution of technical issues.
  • Review and comment on Independent Engineer’s due diligence reports for active construction projects and development opportunities.
  • Manage project interface with Pattern management and construction lenders, providing weekly and monthly reports and status updates.
  • Interface with EPC contractors to support project execution.

Requirements

  • Six or more years of progressive experience in the power industry with significant EPC experience managing the construction of high voltage transmission line and substation projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete multi-million-dollar construction projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and resolve multiple issues on multiple projects under demanding schedule constraints.
  • Thorough understanding of construction contract concepts, language, and terms.
  • Knowledge of basic engineering concepts.
  • Familiarity with transmission and distribution equipment, transformers and substation equipment, overhead and underground cable installation, reactive power compensation equipment, and SCADA systems.

Skills

  • Facility with typical computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint).
  • Scheduling application experience a plus (MS Project, Primavera).

Experience Level

  • Six or more years progressive responsible experience in the power industry with significant EPC experience managing construction of high voltage transmission line and substation projects.
  • Experience managing wind or solar or storage projects is a plus.
  • Large transmission line experience (345kV and higher) is preferred.
  • Field experience desirable.

Education Level

  • Bachelor of Engineering or Science degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering or construction management is desired.

Salary/Compensations

  • $103,000 - $139,000 USD
