About the Role
GPLA, a DPR Family of Companies firm, is a leader in structural engineering seeking a Senior Structural Project Manager to oversee projects from concept to completion. This role involves managing the structural design process through construction administration, ensuring designs meet scope, budget, and schedule. The Senior Structural Project Manager will lead larger, more complex projects and collaborate with teams to deliver safe, cost-efficient, and high-quality structural designs.
Responsibilities
- Mentor and manage Structural Designers I, Structural Designers II, Structural Design Engineers, Structural Project Engineers, Project Managers, and Technical Managers.
- Manage the production of drawings, specifications, and calculations from conceptual design to construction documents.
- Review deliverables to ensure scope and quality standards are met.
- Develop comprehensive project plans defining objectives, scope, deliverables, and timelines.
- Collaborate with design and construction teams to assess structural requirements and estimate resources.
- Manage construction administration tasks, including reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFIs, and conducting site visits.
- Oversee and be responsible for the development of structural designs and analytical models.
- Perform and/or review calculations and analyses for structural integrity and code compliance.
- Utilize CAD software, including Tekla Structures, to create 2D drawings and 3D models.
- Manage engineers, modelers, and detailers to meet project deadlines and deliver high-quality design solutions within budget.
- Collaborate with external stakeholders such as architects, contractors, and MEP designers.
- Manage project design meetings, including setting agendas, taking notes, and providing minutes.
- Stay updated with industry trends, code updates, and advancements in structural design techniques and technologies.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost optimization, and efficiency enhancement.
- Monitor project costs, track expenses, and manage the project budget, including Monthly Status Reports.
- Invoice and pursue payment.
- Identify and pursue change orders as appropriate.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to team members.
Requirements
- In-depth knowledge of structural engineering principles, codes, and standards.
- Familiarity with structural design and analysis, materials, and construction techniques.
- Ability to act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the company.
- Ability to identify and analyze problems, propose solutions, and make informed decisions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to convey complex technical information clearly and concisely.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Keen eye for detail to ensure accuracy and quality in design plans and documentation.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to adapt quickly, make informed decisions, and adjust project plans to face unexpected challenges.
- Proficiency in relevant software and tools used in structural engineering and project management, such as CAD software.
- Commitment to stay updated with industry trends, new technologies, and regulatory changes.
- Advanced proficiency in project management, including planning, organizing, and executing projects.
- In-depth knowledge of financial and budget management principles.
- Ability to sit or stand at a desk and work from a computer for prolonged periods.
- Ability to travel to perform site visits at various project locations.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 15 pounds if needed.
