About the Role

Genomics England is seeking an experienced Senior Product Manager to lead a portfolio of platform products crucial for the Healthcare Genomics Service. This role focuses on internal platforms, data stores, APIs, and shared capabilities that other teams depend on, rather than end-user facing products. The position offers the chance to shape platform product strategy, enable complex systems, and solve challenging technical problems with significant real-world impact.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the vision, strategy, and roadmap for shared platform products, ensuring they deliver measurable value across Genomics England and the NHS.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technical leads to define scalable, API-first services and reusable platform capabilities.
  • Balance platform evolution, operational stability, technical debt, and new delivery against organizational priorities.
  • Define a clear long-term platform product strategy and drive migration from legacy components.
  • Utilize data and outcome measures to assess platform health and impact.
  • Partner across teams to identify common capabilities, reduce duplication, and enhance developer experience.
  • Operate effectively in a complex, regulated environment with strong governance requirements.
  • Build trusted relationships with technical and business stakeholders, making transparent prioritization and trade-off decisions.
  • Mentor product managers and contribute to product excellence organization-wide.

Requirements

  • Experience owning shared platform, infrastructure, or data products used by multiple teams.
  • Strong systems thinking and ability to understand complex technical landscapes.
  • Experience defining product strategy and translating it into measurable outcomes and roadmaps.
  • Confidence working closely with engineering teams on APIs, platform capabilities, and long-term technical evolution.
  • Experience balancing reliability, scalability, operational excellence, and product investment.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills in technically complex environments.
  • A pragmatic, outcome-focused approach to decision-making under ambiguity.
  • Experience in healthcare or genomics is helpful but not essential.
  • Ability to lead complex technical products and collaborate effectively with engineering teams.
  • Successful candidates are subject to a Standard Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
