About the Role

East Side House (ESH) is a community resource in the Bronx and Northern Manhattan dedicated to expanding opportunities for individuals, families, and communities through education, career, and supportive services. The SONYC After School programs align with this mission by providing high-quality programs and services. The Program Director will oversee the daily operations of the program, supervise and develop staff, manage enrollment and program quality, cultivate partnerships, and ensure successful implementation of program goals and contractual requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and day-to-day management of the SONYC after-school program.
  • Supervise, coach, evaluate, and support program staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant departmental policies and procedures.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor engaging academic, enrichment, recreational, leadership, and social-emotional learning activities.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with school administrators, teachers, families, community partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor student enrollment, attendance, retention, and participation.
  • Maintain accurate program documentation, reports, databases, and incident reports.
  • Manage program budgets, supplies, purchasing, and inventory.
  • Coordinate staff schedules and ensure adequate program coverage.
  • Conduct staff recruitment, interviews, onboarding, training, coaching, and performance evaluations.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all participants.
  • Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions.
  • Travel between program locations and attend off-site meetings.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent of 5+ years in youth services preferred, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Master's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Familiarity with the respective Bronx communities, key stakeholders, and resources.
  • Experience in designing, planning, and implementing structured programs.
  • 2+ years of experience supervising more than ten program staff.
  • 2+ years of budget, contract, and grant management experience.
  • Ability to work independently, assess priorities, and take initiative.
  • High level of proficiency in administrative work.
  • Capacity to thrive under pressure while working on multiple tasks and projects.
  • Knowledge of the public education system and positive youth development best practices.
  • Strong public speaking, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with urban youth and young adults from a strength-based perspective.
  • Employees must be clear to work at ESH.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background checks and/or screenings.
  • Must obtain Department of Health Fingerprint Clearance, Department of Education Fingerprint Clearance, State Central Registry (SCR) Clearance, Staff Exclusion List (SEL) Clearance, and Health Statement.
  • COVID Vaccine Required.
  • Must complete Mandated Reporter online training (2 hours) and Foundations of Health & Safety Training (5 hours).
