About the Role
This position provides advanced actuarial analyses and guidance to junior actuaries, supporting strategic underwriting decisions through data-based analysis in areas like Pricing, Reserving, Reinsurance, and Corporate Reporting. Strong communication skills are essential for this role.
Responsibilities
- Provide strong technical and operational support to the leader of the product team.
- Manage resource allocation and prioritize work for yourself and the team.
- Support the product team and review key deliverables.
- Maintain strong relationships with underwriting teams, providing challenge and support in pricing and reserving activities.
- Assist with large account pricing, pricing tool validation, reserving, and capital model parameterization.
- Line manage a junior actuarial student (if applicable).
- Own core processes to produce deliverables for external purposes.
- Support the wider Markel International Actuarial team.
- Represent the department on cross-functional teams.
- Prepare and present actuarial findings.
- Support corporate goals and principles through effective communication and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- Ability to manage and engage senior stakeholders.
- Create effective relationships with stakeholders, including Finance, Underwriting, Capital, Reinsurance, and Claims.
- Effectively work within and influence a team.
- Prioritize your and the team’s workloads.
- Experience engaging with senior underwriters in delivering results.
- Experience running technical projects to produce analyses for portfolio management.
- Experience presenting at formal meetings with senior management.
- Experience in the actuarial elements of business planning and parameterization of underwriting and reserve risk.
- Be present in the London office at least two days a week.
