About the Role

The Care Coordinator will work at the Vera House shelter facility, providing day-to-day care and support activities for victims of domestic violence, abuse, and sexual assault. This role involves crisis intervention, ensuring a safe environment, client transport, managing difficult situations with a trauma-informed approach, and performing daily cleaning and room preparation duties.

Responsibilities

• Provide crisis intervention, local service delivery systems advocacy, short-term counseling and support to individuals and families experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault and other violent trauma.
• Provide emotional support, face to face and telephone crisis intervention, advocacy, and information/referrals at the request of victims or referral sources.
• Maintain client database consistent with Vera House practices.
• Respond to the 24-hour crisis line during working hours.
• Support emergency or deep-cleaning needs, as assigned.
• Assist victims/clients in identifying, understanding, and prioritizing problems and needs.
• Assist clients in obtaining information on available resources and seeking help from intervention systems (criminal justice, legal, medical, counseling, income programs).
• Communicate needs and concerns to appropriate shelter staff and/or community partners regarding resident goals and plans.
• Maintain strong professional boundaries, ensuring compliance, ethical and appropriate interactions.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support shelter operations, resident services, and facility needs.

Requirements

• Minimum 1-3 years’ experience working in human services setting.
• Thorough knowledge of domestic and sexual violence including elder abuse.
• Knowledge of community service delivery systems and the criminal and civil justice systems.
• Prompt response to crisis and thorough, consistent follow-up.
• Ability to develop a positive, compassionate rapport with victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, or other violent trauma.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
• Ability to multitask and work independently.
• Capability to adapt to demanding situations and work well under pressure.
• Must possess a valid New York State Driver’s License and have access to a reliable vehicle for travel and client transport.
• Completion of a satisfactory background check.
