About the Role

We are seeking a Lead DevOps Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team in Sydney. This role involves shaping the technical direction of our platform and infrastructure, partnering with Engineering Leads and senior stakeholders to solve complex challenges, define architectural direction, and create an optimal developer experience. This is an influential position with people management responsibilities, combining deep technical expertise with organizational leadership.

Responsibilities

Shape the technical direction of our platform and infrastructure.
Partner with Engineering Leads, Staff Engineers, and senior stakeholders to solve complex platform challenges.
Define long-term architectural direction.
Create a developer experience that helps teams do their best work.
Drive initiatives across multiple teams and domains.
Raise the engineering bar across Stake.
Establish a clear platform vision enabling Stake to scale reliably, securely, and efficiently.
Ensure engineering teams can independently build, deploy, and operate services through self-service tooling.
Influence architectural decisions across multiple domains.
Embed reliability, observability, and security into software development and operations.
Identify and solve critical scaling challenges.
Provide guidance on complex technical decisions, architecture, and platform strategy.
Develop technical leaders through mentorship, coaching, and technical leadership.

Requirements

Deep experience designing and operating cloud-native platforms at scale.
Strong expertise in Kubernetes and modern infrastructure practices.
Strong knowledge of the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) ecosystem.
Hands-on experience designing and building cloud solutions.
Ability to connect technical decisions to customer outcomes, business goals, and organizational impact.
Experience solving complex problems that span teams, domains, and technical boundaries.
Ability to build alignment through strong communication, technical credibility, and sound judgment.
Track record of leading large-scale initiatives from idea through to measurable outcomes.
Strong people leadership skills and experience building high-performing teams.
Commitment to simplicity, reliability, and creating leverage for other engineers.
