About the Role
The BSAFE Program aims to enhance the holistic health and wellbeing of Black households by increasing access to health and social services, supporting cultural activities, strengthening social networks, and providing opportunities for healing and early intervention for families facing trauma, depression, addiction, housing instability, and mental health challenges. The Housing Navigator will focus on 'External Financial Rescue,' assisting families in crisis with barrier removal, landlord negotiation, and housing rights to prevent evictions and facilitate transitions to permanent housing.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive intake and stabilization services, including assessment of housing needs and crisis response.
- Collaborate with Care Coordinators and households to create housing navigation plans.
- Direct the submission process for affordable housing units using the DAHLIA SF Housing Portal and other subsidies.
- Coordinate the delivery of family stabilization and financial rescue resources, such as eviction prevention assistance and move-in support funds.
- Manage requirements for barrier removal funds, tracking leases and payout records.
- Ensure accurate logging of case notes and financial transactions in platforms like Airtable, DCYF CMS, and SF ONE System.
- Build partnerships with property managers and intervene to protect tenant rights.
- Integrate families into BTWCSC services, including youth programs and the Food to Freedom pantry.
- Conduct training sessions on fair housing statutes, rent control laws, and tenant rights.
- Provide financial support to BSAFE clients as part of stabilization efforts.
Requirements
- Comprehensive understanding of regional housing subsidies (Section 8, RAD, City Vouchers) and proficiency with the DAHLIA portal.
- Operational expertise or familiarity with the San Francisco ONE System (HMIS), Airtable, or equivalent tracking platforms.
- Proven history of advocating for historically disenfranchised urban populations, specifically addressing structural barriers affecting Black households in San Francisco.
- Expertise in applying trauma-informed modalities, behavior management strategies, and conflict de-escalation techniques.
- Advanced mastery of data management tools, including Airtable, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and specialized city-wide tracking databases.
- Valid Driver’s License, current car insurance, and a clean driving record.
- Current CPR/First Aid Certification, TB and Mandated Reporter clearance.
- Bachelor’s Degree OR High School Diploma with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
- At least 3 years of demonstrated experience in housing navigation, care coordination, or case management, serving underserved communities of color.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with staff, clients, volunteers, community stakeholders, funders, and government agencies.
- Demonstrated professionalism, socioemotional tact, and integrity.
