About the Role

As a Senior Payroll Analyst, you will play a key role in managing and supporting payroll operations in Japan, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across end-to-end payroll processes. You will work closely with internal stakeholders and external vendors to deliver payroll operations in alignment with Japan’s labor regulations and company policies. In this role, you will handle complex payroll cases, including adjustments, corrections, and statutory requirements, while identifying opportunities to improve processes and enhance operational efficiency through automation and AI. Working in a lean team environment, you will be expected to take ownership of assigned payroll processes and contribute to both day-to-day operations and continuous process improvements. This role offers an opportunity to take ownership of assigned payroll processes while collaborating with global teams and contributing to ongoing transformation initiatives. Strong ownership, problem-solving skills, and the ability to navigate complex and evolving payroll requirements are key to success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and support end-to-end payroll operations in Japan, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with local regulations and company policies
  • Handle complex payroll cases, including adjustments, corrections, and statutory requirements, and ensure proper resolution in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
  • Partner with external payroll vendors while leveraging a strong understanding of payroll processes to validate outputs and ensure high-quality service delivery
  • Perform payroll reconciliations and validations, ensuring accuracy of payroll data, tax calculations, and benefit deductions
  • Identify process improvement opportunities through automation, AI and contribute to enhancing payroll efficiency, controls, and overall service quality
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (HR, Finance, IT, and global payroll teams) to support payroll-related initiatives and ensure smooth operations
  • Support audits and compliance activities, including preparation of documentation and responses to internal and external inquiries

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on Japan payroll experience
  • Strong understanding of Japanese payroll practices, statutory requirements, income tax, social insurance, and year-end adjustment processes
  • Ability to manage complex payroll cases, including payroll adjustments, corrections, retroactive changes, and exception handling
  • Experience in payroll operations with a strong understanding of underlying payroll processes and logic, enabling effective review and validation of vendor outputs
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and propose practical solutions
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and take ownership of assigned payroll processes
  • Effective communication skills in Japanese, with the ability to communicate clearly with employees, vendors, HR, Finance, and other stakeholders
  • English communication skills sufficient to collaborate with global teams and stakeholders
