About the Role
A General Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of equipment, facilities, and building systems.
Responsibilities
- Address routine and emergency repair requests for equipment, fixtures, fittings, and building systems.
- Collaborate with team members to accomplish maintenance tasks efficiently.
- Respond to reports of broken or faulty items, prioritizing and addressing maintenance requests.
- Conduct routine inspections of buildings to identify potential maintenance issues.
- Coordinate and liaise with external specialists or contractors for complex maintenance tasks.
- Manage the daily reactive help desk, including receiving, prioritizing, and assigning maintenance requests.
- Track and monitor the progress of maintenance work from request to completion.
- Escort sub-contractors to necessary locations within the facility.
- Participate in minor planned preventative maintenance tasks.
- Assist the shift team with their daily tasks.
- Ensure routine fabric maintenance meets and exceeds expectations and agreed service level agreements.
- Ensure all reactive tasks logged are carried out to meet and exceed expectations and agreed service level agreements.
- Undertake painting, decorating, and DIY tasks to maintain an attractive decorative environment.
- Ensure the loading and unloading of stock, and appropriate and safe storage of equipment, spares, and deliveries.
- Ensure effective lamp replacement and cleaning of lighting diffusers in line with electrical safety rules and LOTO process.
- Assist the engineering team to ensure planned and reactive engineering activities meet and exceed service levels and customer expectations.
- Complete and submit all relevant paperwork regarding PPM, reactive, and breakdown works to the contract administrator.
- Assist the Water Treatment Engineer in compiling Water Management System logbooks.
- Prepare Method Statements and Risk Assessments for supervisor/contract management sign-off for all tasks.
- Verify and check all RAMS with engineers, supervisors, and contract staff prior to use.
- Maintain comprehensive maintenance records where applicable.
- Undertake lone working when and where required, subject to training and safety measures.
- Ensure a safe and healthy working environment, including wearing uniform and appropriate PPE.
- Comply with all company, client, and site policies, procedures, and working arrangements.
- Present a professional image of BGIS and the client, delivering and promoting excellence in customer service.
- Maintain fabric and engineering skills through personal development and lifelong learning.
- Produce required near miss reports, dynamic risk assessments, and detailed records of site activities.
- Challenge and escalate any noncompliance identified.
Requirements
- This role is non-technical, focusing on facilitating and coordinating maintenance activities.
- A General Maintenance Technician with less than 4 years of experience in the M&E industry will be prohibited from writing access & permits to work where RAMS have been signed off by the supervisor/contract manager.
- No GMT will have the authority to write electrical permits.
- Must pass satisfactory training and have appropriate safety measures and controls implemented for lone working.
- Must wear uniform and appropriate PPE always.
- Must comply with all company and client policies and procedures, as well as client site policies, procedures and working arrangements.
