About the Role

Join Lewisham’s dynamic Youth Service team as a Detached Youth Worker, engaging with young people where they are, and supporting them to access services and opportunities in the community. You will be out in Lewisham's town centres, parks and estates, engaging with young people, providing guidance and building trusted relationships. You will understand and be responsive to young people's needs and interests and support them to get involved in their community, make the most of opportunities and stay safe. You will help monitor and evaluate progress and contribute ideas towards the development of the work.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with young people in public spaces, on estates and in parks.
  • Provide guidance and build trusted relationships with young people.
  • Understand and respond to young people's needs and interests.
  • Support young people to get involved in their community.
  • Help young people make the most of opportunities and stay safe.
  • Monitor and evaluate progress.
  • Contribute ideas towards the development of the work.

Requirements

  • Experience working with young people from diverse backgrounds in various settings, including as a detached youth worker.
  • Ability to initiate conversation and engage with young people.
  • Ability to identify opportunities to signpost young people to services and activities.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
  • Knowledge of contextual safeguarding.
  • Must complete the application fully.
  • Supporting statement must cover how each person specification criterion is met.

Salary/Compensations

  • £32,384 to £33,384 per annum (SC4) pro rata (18 hours per week)
