About the Role
Seeking an experienced Associate Technical Director to join our Rail South, West & Wales Business Unit, supporting the delivery of major rail structures projects. You will provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio including depots, maintenance facilities, bridge replacements, and station upgrades/new-builds. This is an excellent opportunity for a collaborative, client-focused leader who enjoys solving complex challenges, developing high-performing teams, and shaping the growth of our rail business.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary rail projects, guiding design development, decision-making, and technical assurance to deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Build strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and project teams, offering trusted advice throughout the project lifecycle and supporting successful delivery.
- Support project and design managers with technical governance, resource planning, safety-critical reviews, and the effective delivery of complex design work.
- Mentor and develop engineers within the team, chair technical reviews, and promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, continuous improvement, and health and safety.
- Contribute to work winning and business growth, including strengthening client relationships, expanding market presence, and helping shape regional growth strategies.
Requirements
- BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status through a recognised professional institution.
- Significant experience leading the technical delivery of rail structures or multidisciplinary rail infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of design assurance, health and safety, safety-critical processes, and relevant rail industry standards.
- Ability to undertake the role of Contractor’s Engineering Manager to NR/L2/INI/02009 if required.
- Proven ability to build client relationships, lead technical teams, support business development, and mentor others in a collaborative and inclusive environment.
