About the Role
This role provides strategic leadership and hands-on expertise across governance, compliance, and risk functions, working closely with leadership to strengthen frameworks, manage risk, drive compliance, and foster accountability. The position is key in ensuring regulatory obligations are met and best-practice governance standards are embedded.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership across governance, compliance, risk management, privacy, WHS, and legal matters.
- Support Regional and State Boards to operate effectively, ethically, and in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve governance, risk, and compliance frameworks.
- Lead board governance processes, reporting, and compliance monitoring activities.
- Oversee policy development and compliance programs across key risk areas including child safety, privacy, procurement, and workplace health and safety.
- Develop governance training and capability-building programs for Board Directors and key stakeholders.
- Partner with Finance, Property, and operational teams to ensure compliance across infrastructure and procurement activities.
- Identify compliance risks and gaps and drive practical remediation plans.
- Lead reporting on governance, risk, and compliance metrics for boards and committees.
- Promote a strong culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in law, governance, risk, finance, economics, or a related discipline.
- 15+ years' senior leadership experience within governance, risk, compliance, legal, financial services, education, government-funded organisations, or another highly regulated industry.
- Deep understanding of governance, risk, and compliance frameworks and regulatory requirements.
- Experience working with Boards, executive leadership teams, and senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing compliance and risk programs.
- Strong knowledge of ISO standards, including risk and workplace health and safety frameworks.
- Outstanding communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- The ability to influence, educate, and build capability across diverse teams.
- A solutions-focused mindset with the ability to balance strategic leadership and operational execution.
